Pre-race routine:

Pigged out on pasta compliments of Kilo Dave, our chef Boyardee for the night before the race. Cooked at the condo and drank wine and watched Dime and Dave arm wrestle for the king bedroom. Super funny times! :) The next morning woke up early and ate Honey Bunches of Oats and a banana. Wandered around trying to figure out how much to dress for the day...it was chilly and overcast out. Perfect running weather tho! I knew it was going to be a fast day today! I was pretty nervous for some reason for this race...probably because I wanted very badly to break 8 min miles for this one. Also was stressing about getting on the bus cuz they were checking numbers...hmmm let's see if this works! :)
Event warmup:

Dave, Brett, Dime and Greg concocted a plan to distract the number checking girl at the bus. I got snuck on, no problems! We were all high fiving, yeah it's time to race now! Bus dropped us off bout 1 hour early. It was FREEZING out! Pretty much no wind, but it was cold! Drank a 1/2 gatorade and a little water. About 20 minutes before the race, started running to warm up. Got in the 7 min/mile wave and briefly wondered if I belonged here :)

What would you do differently?:

Hydrate more. Drank probably 1/2 cup total of water the whole race. Had a GU but didn't take it. Never got overly hot the whole race, but definitely wished I had a layer less.
Nonetheless, this was a BIG race for me because I beat my personal 1/2 mary best by over 20 minutes compared to just a year ago!!! Amazing what training consistently will do! I couldn't believe it....I'm so excited to get better too!
Post race
Warm down:

Heard Meg, Dave and Dime yelling for me at the finish! Passed 3 girls at the finish, ha ha! :) They were fading, good for me, bad for them. Oh oops too bad it doesn't count :) Walked thru and met up with everyone and ate an orange on the way from the post-race goodies. Meg was bad a$$, she took tons of pics for all of us. Can't wait to post them! Then headed to get margs and Mexican. I'd been looking forward this drink all morning :)

Event comments:

Course was amazing, extremely well organized and the mile markers were the most accurate I've seen in a race yet (according to the Garmin beepings around me :) ). So cool to run here, I've only mountain biked to date, and running down this canyon felt surreal almost! Great times with great people....glad I came, even if my time is unofficial!

Avg HR was 171, max 189. YIKES! The ranking and age group places are where I would have finished had I had a chip.
Course: Rolling hills thru the canyon. Felt like we were going downhill for most of it, but actually had a 400 ft net ascent. Wind was to our backs the whole way, so that was awesome as well. Everyone at the aid stations was a blast, but the funnest one was the lesbian drummers at mile 10 :)
