Swim
Comments: This was only my second tri and I struggled a little during the first part of the race with all bumping. Pretty much all the way to the first buoy another guy and myself kept running into each other. I think I did the guy a favor, if I wasn't there he would have ran aground. I found my rythm on the last two thirds of the race. I was able to breathe every third stroke. What would you do differently?: It might have been better to start out off to the side or a few seconds behind the main group. I wasted a lot of energy battling the crowd. I need to work on my drafting. All in all not bad for my second tri. Remember to suck in my gut when I'm coming out of the water. Transition 1
Comments: I didn't try to put my shirt on over my helmet like I did in my first tri, so it went pretty good. I had some trouble getting the bike jersey down in the back. Bike
Comments: This is a really fun bike course. The men's 35-39 wave was one of the last waves. There were a lot of people to pass and it helped to always have a target passee in front of you. There was a pile of water bottles on the railroad tracks at the bottom of a hill. I didn't see or hear of any crashes. What would you do differently?: I need some more hill work. Transition 2
Comments: I got in the top 10 with this transition. On the bike I was wearing my running shoes with clips(as opposed to clipless) pedals. I flew through this transition. Realistically, this is probably my only chance to get a top 10 in anything. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: The first mile is uphill. I don't think I'm exagerating. I just took it easy and tried to find a rythm. The second mile was fairly flat my pace felt pretty good. The last mile was downhill. This was my "A" race of the season so I just let my legs go on the downhill. When I came around the bend to the finish line I saw a guy in my age group right ahead of me. I still felt pretty good, so I put everything into passing him strong. I didn't want him to chase me down at the end. This was my best finish in a race ever. There've definitely been races where I've given up and coasted into the finish line. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
Warm down: Some stretches and talking to the family was about it. What limited your ability to perform faster: I need to work on my swim, drop some weight for the hills, and get some more hill work for both the bike and the run. Event comments: This was a really fun race. It was very well organized. The food was excellent. They gave out a t-shirt, a goody bag plus a folding chair. It was a pretty good haul. This race report is a couple years late so I don't remember everything, except it was a fun race. Last updated: 2008-02-29 12:00 AM

Breakfast consisted of toast with peanut butter and jelly and some gatorade. Recheck my bag one last and then off to Chaska.
Warmed up with a short jog about 20 minutes before the start. A little swimming right before the start.
