Pre-race routine:

Alarm was set for 4:00am but I woke up to my nephew saying "uh-oh" around 3:30. Apparently he dropped his horse, which made me laugh. Didn't go back to sleep after that...I was ready to get up and get going. Nothing new for my pre-race routine. Ate some oatmeal and a banana.
Event warmup:

Short jog to get the legs moving a little. I didn't want to do too much considering we had to be out of transition by 7 and our wave didn't go out until almost 7:50.
Swim
  • 30m 58s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 04s / 100 meters
Comments:

The water felt really cold to me. I think I was gasping for air for about 30 seconds before my body adjusted. Rough start to the swim. I was getting hit from every direction. I tried to just keep swimming. It finally opened up on the way back but then it felt like my chip was falling off. I stopped 3 or 4 times to try and secure the velcro a little better but it didn't help. This is always my weakest area but I was pretty happy with the result.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really, just keep practice my swim technique.
Transition 1
  • 03m 34s
Comments:

Saw Erin, Marie and Shawn in transition. Took second to see how everyone was doing. Bike got stuck on the rack but other than that not too bad for the first one of the season. I hope to use my new tri shoes next race which will save me some time.
Bike
  • 1h 29m 9s
  • 25.48 miles
  • 17.15 mile/hr
Comments:

I thought this was a great course. The goal was just to stay comfortable. I haven't spent too much time on the bike this year so I really didn't know what to expect with the hills. I felt good throughout and was happy with the result.
What would you do differently?:

Ride more before the race.
Transition 2
  • 02m 22s
Comments:

I got stuck behind someone walking with their bike which slowed me down because I couldn't get around her. Other than that, this was better than T1.
Run
  • 50m
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 03s  min/mile
Comments:

This was a hilly run. Other than my left quad cramping on one of the hills, I felt good. I wish I had a course like that to train on.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched a little and waited for my sister and friends to finish.

Event comments:

I loved this race and can't wait for next year!
