Total Time = 00m
Overall Rank = 268/361
Age Group = 40-49
Age Group Rank = 25/31
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5:30, had a bagel with PB, a banana and some gatorade. Packed the bike and drove to the island.
Event warmup:

tried to figure out what time my wave was, wait forever to get marked and my chip, then go to the bathroom. But good story the Porta Potty I was waiting in line for was taken away while 20 were in line. Apparently the rental period for it was over. Nice.
Swim
  • 16m 59s
  • 547 yards
  • 03m 07s / 100 yards
Comments:

Okay I can't swim and if it wasn't for the fact that I could stand up lin half of the swim I probably would have taken an hour. My technique goes out the door because I panic. I saw person after person go by me but I did everything I could to keep going.
What would you do differently?:

PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE
Transition 1
  • 03m 56s
Comments:

I did run to T1 this time but I was beat.
What would you do differently?:

Better job getting ready
Bike
  • 40m 54s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 18.23 mile/hr
Comments:

Like an idiot I adjusted my seat too low before the race. Why I don't know but I think it affected my cadence. I need a fitting. I think I was getting a side stitch too. At times I felt like I need aero bars for more comfort.
What would you do differently?:

Adjust seat better. Give a 110 percent effort.
Transition 2
  • 02m 46s
Comments:

Better than I thought but I ended up chatting with a guy next to me. Some put their bike over my stuff. Pissed me off.
What would you do differently?:

Faster
Run
  • 33m 39s
  • 3.4 miles
  • 09m 54s  min/mile
Comments:

Not sure what happened here but my legs were shot and I was tired. I drank way too much and felt it. Sluggish, too many stops walking.
What would you do differently?:

Keep running no matter what. A 61 year old man flew by me
Post race
Warm down:

Got some water. Heed makes me sick.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Mentally I was not prepared. I did not give it my all.

Event comments:

This was a poorly organized race. With the cryptic prerace emails to the crappy markings/chip organization to the wave designation this should have been better put together.
