Swim
Comments: I actually surprised myself with the swim. This was my first Olympic distance race and really my first open water swim. Sighting the first few bouys was very difficult due to sun glare. I just stayed with the pack and figured I'd follow them. Lots of bumping for the first several hundred yards. Once we made the last turn, I was able to get into a better rhythm and just swam towards the yellow bouy. I felt great and had no trouble with breathing. What would you do differently?: Learn to swim faster Transition 1
Comments: I actually walked some of the way to the transition area after getting out of the water. I was just trying to re-group for a few seconds. I had no trouble getting my wetsuit off. I wasn't sure what to expect since it was my first time with a wetsuit on. I put on my helmet, sunglasses, and shoes and off I went. What would you do differently?: I would probably run from the water to the transition area. Bike
Comments: I LOVED this bike course. There was one hill after another and the scenery was unbelievable. I think the worst part about the bike for me is the downhills. I would rather climb a hill than have to go down it, especially the steep ones. I get very nervous and this slows me down unfortunately. I saw Marie at one point and she yelled to me to just tug and go on the hills. I tried listening to her and then a few miles later after a big downhill I come upon a biker that fell and his face was covered in blood. He wasn't moving. It was an awful sight. It was starting to rain at this point too. I think I prayed the rest of the way that no one else would get hurt. That sight really messed me up and probably slowed me down even more. All in all, I loved this course and wish I had roads like that to ride on around here. What would you do differently?: I thoroughly enjoyed this ride. Hopefully, next year I'll have a better average page. Transition 2
Comments: The girl next to me changed the direction of her bike from the morning so it made it more difficult for me to get my bike racked. I lost some time there. I actually don't remember putting on my running shoes. :) Run
Comments: Although this is a slower pace than I have been running, I actually felt good on the run. I took a gel about a mile into the run because I forgot to take it at the end of the bike. I had my breathing under control and no real pain other than the burning in my legs on the hills. There were so many HILLS on this run. For some reason, the run just seemed to go by so quickly for me. What would you do differently?: Maybe next year I'll be able to push myself a bit harder since I'll know what to expect. Post race
Warm down: Stretching and climbed another hill for food. What limited your ability to perform faster: First time Olympic (2nd triathlon ever) and not knowing what to expect Event comments: This is an amazing race and I can't wait to do it again next year! Last updated: 2008-03-01 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4am. Got dressed and Packed the car. Meg, Marie and I met Shawn and Derek in the lobby at 4:30am. We headed over to the park and actually had no wait getting into the lot. At 5am, the transition area was opened and body marking began. We ate some oatmeal and then went to get marked. Went back to the car and closed our eyes for a half hour or so before going to set-up in transition. After setting up transition, we went to watch the pros come in from the water and then met up with my husband and kids.
No real warm-up other than some stretching
