Pre-race routine:

I got up, took a shower, got dressed, ate a bowl of Honey Oat Cherrios and headed to RT's house to carpool to the race.
Event warmup:

I took a short jog from the parking lot to pick-up my race number. I then walked back and did my pre-race routine were I visualize myself running every mile. I then took a GU 15 minutes before start time and we jogged to the start. I saw some friends and we chatted for a while then shortly afterwards we made a push to the front of the pack.

Comments:

I started pretty close to the front pack. It was cool not having to dodge so many runners. I made a path for myself near the curb and started to pass a lot of runners. Once I got to some open running space, I tried to settle into a quick pace. I also said to myself WOW, I'm pretty close to the leaders. This didn't last too long before they were no longer in sight.

A few seconds afterwards my buddy RT passed me along with Joey close behind him. I wasn't really paying attention to my pace except running by feel on this one. It felt like the first mile took forever to reach but when it finally did I was surprised. I then tryed to keep the same pace for the next few miles. Somewhere before Mile 2, Aimster (Pace Booty) passed me. Once I reached mile 3 is where the usual mind games began. Can I hold this pace?, Holy shit I'm tired, - the usual questions were responded by just keep running. I did notice that my breathing wasn't smooth, so I really concentrated on getting a smooth breathing pattern.

I had a tough time between mile 4 and 5, my paced slowed down and this is where I lost my sub 48. Then came the long downhill and I put it on speed control and passed lots of people but still not faster than my first mile. The push to the finish wasn't as strong as I might've wanted but I gave it my best on this day.
What would you do differently?:

I would've pushed harder on that mile that I didn't run a sub 8. That is the only thing I would've done differently.
Post race
Warm down:

I watched and cheered some friends to the finish. Then hung around for a little bit and then struggled to get on the buses back to the start line. Once, we got back it was a quick walk to the T-shirt pick up and a short jog to the car. Then we had breakfast at J.Christopher's and the oatmeal was real good (yummy).

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing - I had a good day.

Event comments:

This is a well organized race that will be a yearly race. The only bad part is the bus pick up needs to be more organized.
