Age Group Rank = 36/36
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 7am, had banana and some water, registered at event, walked to start of swim, waited to rack bike and start.
Event warmup:

no warm up other than walking from registration to start (400m)
Swim
  • 00m
  • 400 meters
  • / 100 meters
Comments:

VERY large waves, The course marshalls changed the course from a 400m swim to a 100-200m wade and then run down the beach to the transition area. Wading through water like that was not what I had trained for and took way more energy than I was expecting.
What would you do differently?:

I just needed to be fitter to cope with this sort of exertion. My next ri is in a pool, so the conditions wont matter as much :-)
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Transition went really well, I was last in from the water and third to last out of trans. on the bike. It helped that I didn't have a wetsuit to take off (I have enought natural insulation) I had forgotten to untie my shoelaces, so when I came to put them on I had a quiet curse under my breath, but it didn't hold me up for too long.
What would you do differently?:

UNTIE SHOELACES!
Bike
  • 00m
  • 12 kms
  • 0.00 km/hr
Comments:

Bike was good. I kept up a good speed, passed two people. Had some gear issues (sometimes my gears stick) but not too bad. Quite a strong head wind going out, but coming back was a breeze. Can't wait to get my road bike! I had slicks put on my MTB, but it's a cheap bike and never goes as fast as I went on my prev. road bike. It was not fun being passed by my friend on her brand new bike! (I got over it though :-))
What would you do differently?:

Kept up a good cadence and speed, had a few too many breathers, so just need to keep building up fitness
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Transition went well, getting tired at this stage though, so didn't run with bike
Run
  • 45m
  • 4 kms
  • 11m 15s  min/km
Comments:

Oh boy... I knew that I needed to work on my run but this was ridiculous! it took me the same time to run 4K as it did to do the other two stages. I was definatley under prepared. All I can do here is live and learn though. I managed to run about 3/4 of this distance (well, when I say run, I think that stumble is a more apt discription)The next tri I am doing has a 5Km run and the run comes first, so I'm going to put in some hours over the next month, I want to be able to do 5K in 30 min.
What would you do differently?:

Train more
