Event warmup:

Approximately 2 mile bike ride
Swim
  • 17m 22s
  • 962 yards
  • 01m 48s / 100 yards
Comments:

I felt a bit out of sorts the first 200yds as I tried to stay in the draft of one person or another. Actually felt better about 1/4 of the way into the swim when I was in open water with no one around. I finally fell into a good rhythm. Rest of the swim felt really good. Thats when I started to pass people.
What would you do differently?:

Train more. I haven't been in the water except for two races in the past month and a half.

Swim my own race. I think that I actually slowed myself down by trying to draft off people in this race and the Young Life race last weekend. I noticed that I was spending a lot of time dragging my feet as I looked for people to draft off. I felt much better this weekend when I just relaxed and swam. I think this is primarily due to my taking on a more hydrodynamic position in the water.
Transition 1
  • 01m 51s
Comments:

Ran half way down the wrong aisle. Felt really crappy about this as I had just went over "knowing where your spot is in transition" with my kids during their tri the day before. Also took a little longer getting wetsuit off than I wold like.
What would you do differently?:

Practice running into the transition area a few times so I don't make the same mistake when tired and out of it when coming out of the water.
Bike
  • 50m 25s
  • 17 miles
  • 20.23 mile/hr
Comments:

I would lose ground on the up hills and catch-up on the down hills.
What would you do differently?:

Need to keep up with training and build sport specific strength.
Transition 2
  • 00m 46s
Comments:

Missed the rack once with bike when racking. Otherwise a good transition.
What would you do differently?:

Not much
Run
  • 35m 53s
  • 3.9 miles
  • 09m 12s  min/mile
Comments:

Grabbed a HEED at the beginning of the run. Wish it wasn't clear like water so it would be easier to identify when stations are too busy for anyone to be yelling which is which. Wanted to just get a sip and pour the rest over my head to cool, but decided not to do so with HEED.
What would you do differently?:

Need to get more time on my shoes and increase my running speed. I was happy to keep running the whole distance, which was somewhat of a mental breakthrough, but need to increase my speed while running. THIS IS MY LIMITING EVENT.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around race site and loaded the bikes on the van.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Running

Event comments:

Really enjoyed this race, especially since it was in conjunction with the Kid's triathlon on Saturday.
