Swim
Comments: This was a comfortable/hard swim for me but I feel like I could push it harder and still stay in control of my form - especially for 300M. I passed one guy who started right ahead of me and other than that had clear water the whole way. I felt great running to T1 so maybe I held back a little too much What would you do differently?: Figure out the right combo of speed, form and not being too out of breath getting on the bike. Then again it's a sprint. So, push the swim harder and keep form. Basically, swim more and continue to improve. Transition 1
Comments: Swimming in my top and just dealing with the wet ride helped improve my time here. And, it wasn't even as cold as I thought I would feel. At Monster this was a 1.16 T1 so this was a huge improvement What would you do differently?: Nothing. Although I had a slight problem buckling my helmet and had images of Macca in Kona going thru my head. Maybe cost me 2secs Bike
Comments: This was better than a 2 minute improvement over Monster on the same course so I was pretty happy with the results. Everything went as planned and I even swam without my Garmin strap and managed to easily get it on my wrist while riding. What would you do differently?: Possibly push a bit harder on the 2 little climbs. I didn't attack as I was keeping the run in mind. Transition 2
Comments: Never had a T2 longer than T1 but this was also a huge improvement time for me. Rather than running with my race belt and clipping it on the move I had it snapped together already so I could just step thru it and pull it up to my waist in T2. Props to the 2 dudes talking about it near me while we were setting up before the race. I heard them discussing it so I figured I would try it out since I seem to suck at running and snapping. Worked pretty good though I did get my foot caught on the belt and cost myself a little time. Overall though I'll stick with this strategy when you don't have to wear your number on the bike What would you do differently?: Nothing much. I dont see where I'm gonna shave too much more off unless I run faster in transition Run
Comments: 5k PR by 29 seconds so I was pleased. Not sure if I had more in me for this run. I've read reports where guys want to get to the point of throwing up at the end of the run and I wasn't quite there but was pretty taxed. I tried to sprint the guy in front of me up the grass to the finish but couldn't beat him (wonder if he was in my age group if I woulda found something extra in the tank??). I usually have that burst left and this time I didn't so I think I had a hard, steady effort the whole race. What would you do differently?: This is my best 5k ever - stand alone or Tri so I hope I can continue to improve with the steady training. Possibly get lessons from Tri-Z b/c she has left me in perpetual 2nd place overall in our household! Post race
Warm down: Walked around to catch my breath, stretch and cheer on the crew coming in What limited your ability to perform faster: I've been swim training for a longer distance and didn't push myself in the swim like I should have for a sprint Event comments: Great turnout for this race which is very cool to see. Waiting around in the pool area sucks but there isn't much they can do about it. The t-shirts are by far the worst I have ever seen. Otherwise this is a fun race. Big ups to the guys cooking pancakes. They stood there all day in the wind until everyone got some! Last updated: 2008-03-02 12:00 AM

100 Meters in pool to get loose. Then stand around for 40 minutes waiting for my turn to get in the water.
