Age Group Rank = 5/20
Pre-race routine:

Woke at 3:00 am (Yuk). Ate 3 eggs and a little bacon glass of skim milk. Showered, loaded the bike, and left a 4:00 am for the 2 hr+ drive to the park. Had to stop and fill up for the second time this week $75.00 (Damn truck).
Event warmup:

Arrived at 6:30. Racked my bike, picked up my chip, got marked and walked through my transition. Slow jogged 1 mile, then suited up and swam about 300 meters, and finally waited for my wave.
Swim
  • 14m 50s
  • 656 yards
  • 02m 16s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim time continues to kill me. My fitness is great, never even got out of breath but obviously my technique sucks. Oh well....I guess I need to suck it up and hire a swim coach.
Transition 1
  • 01m 8s
Comments:

Smoked both transitions, 2/20.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 33m 35s
  • 11.2 miles
  • 20.01 mile/hr
Comments:

Kept the pace comfortable. Probably could have gone faster. Was only passed by 6 riders. All of which finish in the top 3 in some classification. I am pretty sure I can maintain that same effort for 56 at GC.
What would you do differently?:

Meh...nothing
Transition 2
  • 00m 44s
Comments:

Flawless transition. My best ever.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 22m 27s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

Run went well. Had to slow down for several minutes after mile 2 due to some major stomach pain (WTF?) I've never experienced. Picked it up after it passed. Definately not my fastest but I have no complaints.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster?
Post race
Warm down:

Walked for several minutes. Chatted with fellow AGer Tom M (finished 2nd).

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My swim technique, and a very conservative effort.

Event comments:

Overall I can't complain as this race was just a primer for Gulf Coast. My only goal was to work on mechanics and at least beat last years dismal finish. I accomplished both. Afterwards I wished I would have pushed more on the bike and the run as I am pretty confident I could have finished several minutes faster. Oh well. Congratulations to all of the NASMCers that podiumed (Kirk B. Greg C. and Rebecca C.) as well as Jonathon for his awesome finish!!!
