Swim
Comments: my form goes out the window in races. it took me about 300 yards before i started feeling smooth and controled. drafting did not work out. everytime i would target someone, i couldn't catch them. finally decided to stop trying and just worry about myself. sighted well. swam relatively straight. nice improvement over last year (approx 20% better vs the field). What would you do differently?: start with better form. chill out. Transition 1
Comments: approx time due to swim plus T1 time combined in official results. took wetsuit off down near the beach which worked well as the run to transition was long and uphill. did drop my goggles which i had to go back for. rubber band and shoes move did not work smoothly for me this time. issues getting shoes on. usually works great. What would you do differently?: not much. some minor adversity, but i kept cool. Bike
Comments: spreken zie hilly? Had a pretty smooth ride after i got my shoes on. i was passed early on by a fellow Clyde who was a strong rider. Stayed with him almost the whole way which worked out well for my pacing. He pulled a way at the very end. took 1 Gu gel and had one bottle of H20. putting the 12-27 on last week was a good move as i used every bit of it. Downhills were fun...45mph max. Averaged 1.5 mph faster than last year. What would you do differently?: my limiter was my training. performed about as well as capable in order to ensure a strong run. Transition 2
Comments: great. top 10 in entire field. last year's t2 time year was 1:45, so i picked up a free minute. What would you do differently?: had to ditch my shades b/c they got tanngled in my helment. need better solution for that. Run
Comments: My clyde friend from the bike was leaving transition as i was coming in. Was able to catch and pass him in the first 1/4 mile. tried to pass with authority, as painful as it was. he later told me he tried to respond but couldn't, so it was effective. the hill around mile 1 was brutal. really shortened my stride to a point that i was barely moving but kept the cadence high. by mile 2 i was feeling great and just let em fly. no water or gels on the run. was fine. approx 30 sec per mile faster than last year. What would you do differently?: nothing Post race
Warm down: After my 9:30am cheesburger and plate of ziti I took a shower. Met some of the folks from the philly tri club. Stayed for the awards and to cheer on some Half Iron folks come through T2. Event comments: my 3rd CGI race. love their events. Last updated: 2008-03-03 12:00 AM

This was my 1 year anniversary as a triathlete as Black Bear was my first ever last year. Main goal was to just do better than last year and measure my fitness improvements. Last year I finished barely in the top 40% overall and this year I cracked the top 20%. Very happy with the result.
Left for race @ 4:45.
