Swim
Comments: I didn't panic at all during this swim. Probably because I was off swimming by myself off course for most of it. :) The kayak guy had to come and get me twice. Oops! Guess I gotta work on that sighting thing. Judging by my swim time, I must have added at least 500 yds. What would you do differently?: Swim straight :) Transition 1
Comments: Uh yeah...I suck at transitions. I couldn't get my wetsuit over my monster calves and over my ankles. What would you do differently?: It is what it is. I'm not winning anything, so it's okay. Bike
Comments: Wow, the bike was tough. I knew it was going to be, I saw the elevation map. But it was hill after hill after hill. Just when you think you catch a break and can have a breather, another hill appears. Add to that the temperature climbed to 100. There were two hills that I had to walk. One was a 12% grade and it totally kicked my butt. The other was the infamous LeMond walked hill. Figured if he could walk it, so could I! hehe My head started to feel out of it during the bike. It was a weird feeling, not really nauseous and not really dizzy, but just kind of hazy. What would you do differently?: Need to train on more hills. Transition 2
Run
Comments: I pretty much walked the entire run portion. Both of my hips and my right knee were hurting. More hills and not a whole lot of shade. Thank goodness for aid stations every 1.5 miles or so and the cold water. The haziness I was feeling from the bike continued during the run. I'm attributing it to heat since it's not something I've ever felt befoe. Post race
Warm down: I walked around for a bit. Found my T2 bag, loaded everything into my car. Had a bit of fruit in the athlete's tent. Then headed to In'N'Out for a cheeseburger, fries and a neopolitan shake. Mmmmm! What limited your ability to perform faster: The heat and actually being able to run. Event comments: The volunteers at this race were amazing! Every turn and corner on the bike, there were volunteers. The run aid stations were staffed with volunteers to pour ice water over you to cool down. Last updated: 2008-03-03 12:00 AM

I woke up at 4:30 and was out the door by 5. Ate some toast and PB on the drive. Set my T2, which essentially consisted of staking out a spot and tossing my bag.
6.59 mi bike from T2 to T1. Then a 5 min. swim before the race start.
