Swim
Comments: I struggled with my breathing for the first half of the race, but was able to make it through without having to stop at all so I was happy with that. I hit my hand on the lane lines a few times and have a lovely bruise to show for it. Transition 1
Comments: This is my first triathlon so I have no comparison on transitions, but felt it went pretty well fo rthe number of layers I wanted to stay warm during the bike. HMMMM let's play count the layers. 1,2,3,4 on top...1,2 on the bottom. lol CAn you tell I hate to be cold !!! What would you do differently?: Skip a layer of clothes Bike
Comments: I really need to practice working with my gears. I didn't have a clue. Definitely showed that I have only been on a road bike for a few months, but felt really good overall. Transition 2
Comments: Again I think inexperience here showed as I didn't want so many layers and the layer I wanted off was the bottom one. lol What would you do differently?: Go out on the bike with less clothing on Run
Comments: This was my worst leg of the race. I don't know what happened, but I just couldn't get into a good rythym. My breathing was terrible and I my heart rate was way to high. I lost a lot of time here. What would you do differently?: I will definitely have to train more with bricks of bike/run. I had been doing a lot of swim/bike as I thought that would be harder, but I can see that isn't the case for me. Post race
Warm down: Again with chasing a 2,3 and 6 year old around the UBC campus. We went up and down "the hill" quite a few times. Threw in a few stretches for good measure and then if you can believe it went swimming. lol MY daughter had lessons that afternoon and wanted to swim before hand so I had to be in the pool with her. What limited your ability to perform faster: I think the cold damp air really affected my lungs and I just couldn't make the run happen for me today. Event comments: Overall I had a great time at this race. It gave me a good idea of how the sport works and the things I really need to work on to improve next time. I was happy with how positive I stayed even when I tanked on the run. Last updated: 2008-03-04 12:00 AM

Wow, it was an early start this morning. After hitting snooze once I made it down to the blender to mix up a protein smoothy. Drank that along with eating a banana before going and waking Dh and pulling three sleeping kids out of bed and into the van for the drive out to UBC. A quick stop at Timmy's for the kids breakfast and we're off.
Warm up consisted of riding herd on three excited and energy filled kidlets. They seemed to be going in 5 different directions at once. lol
