Swim
Comments: I found that placing myself in the middle of the pack works best for me. I swim crooked, so to have people on either side of me and in front of me kept me in line. I chose not to wear a wet suit, even though it was legal for the swim. The air temp was too warm and the water was really nice. What would you do differently?: Take part in the swim practice...I just didn't get there in time. Transition 1
Comments: Loved that I had my bucket to sit down on and dry off feet to put my shoes on. No wet suit, which made this transition a little easier. This was a b-race for me, so I wasn't overly focused on transition time. Bike
Comments: I have GOT to learn how to grab my water bottle while on my bike. I didn't drink at all, but I downed a BUNCH of fluid during T1, so I felt fine. Also, my gears kept shifting on their own, which I found very annoying. What would you do differently?: Get in to my damn clips. Not needed so much for this one, but I'd like to get in to them before I fast more serious inclines. Transition 2
Comments: Fast transition since I didn't have to change my shoes. Down more water/gatorade and I was off. Run
Comments: I didn't push myself, due to the humidity and this being a B race. But I was able to maintain a decent pace and passed about 40 women. It was a nice confidence booster to end the race on. Post race
Warm down: My aunt dumping a bottle of water over my head. What limited your ability to perform faster: Heat, humidity, poor gear shifts, no clip-in pedals, swimming upstream. Event comments: I would recommend this race to any woman, whether they are a first-timer or a seasoned triathlete. All were made very welcome and the organization was superb. Red bull and a zone bar, as usual!! They wouldn't let Johnnie in to the transition area to help me set up, which made me a little nervous as this was my first "real" triathlon. But I managed fine, and he stood just outside the ropes and told me what to do.
If you call hauling ass over to the swim start a warm up, then there you go. They were way ahead of the time estimate for getting the waves into the water. I think just because it was hot out and they wanted to get folks going.
