Swim
Comments: I was doing great for the first couple 100 meters, keeping my head done, and sighting well, until I lost my nose plugs :-( At which point my standard "head-above-water" method of swimming took over, and I breathed in more then I would have liked. Still, I kept a mostly steady pace for the remainder of the swim, all overhand stroke (with no breaks). My toe was hurting a bit towards the end as well. What would you do differently?: Get better nose plugs! Transition 1
Comments: Good transition. No issues here. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: I probably went too easy on the bike section. I was worried about my toe, and it was my first time racing on the new bike. Going up hill wasn't as bad as I remembered it being last year, and going down hill MORE then made up for the effort to get up there to begin with! I FLEW down those hills. Absolutely awesome feeling. What would you do differently?: I need to remember to push myself more during the bike. I'm always so worried that I won;t be able to handle the run, that I don't put enough effort in here. I need to work on that. I'm a bit disappointed with myself for this one. Transition 2
Comments: Once again, no issues here. What would you do differently?: I forgot to take off my biking gloves, but they actually came in handy for wiping sweat out of my eyes during the run! So I might use them again in the future :-) Run
Comments: I decided that since I had NO idea what my time was looking like, that I would content myself by not walking at all during the run, and I succeeded! I was going quite slow for the first 2 miles as a result, however. it seems that my next wind always comes after the two mile marker, at which point my pace picks up tremendously. Which kind of sucks, since by then the slower pace has already done it's damage. My toe was throbbing by this point though, and my right ankle was joining in on the fun. What would you do differently?: Again with the not pushing myself hard enough initially. Although, that was actually intentional on the run. Stupid toe. Post race
Warm down: Just some walking, water, and a massage. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of watch, not-yet-fully-healed broken toe, and my own insecurities. Event comments: There seemed to be less volunteers on the bike course this year, which was a pity, as I enjoyed them a lot last year. They made up for it by providing cool-wet-washcloths for our face and necks DURING the run! That was totally awesome :-D Last updated: 2008-03-06 12:00 AM

Only been allowed to run again for one week following my broken toe extravaganza! Had a Luna Clif Bar and a bit to much water first thing in the morning. I forgot my watch also, which made the entire race a completely different experience. A bit freeing actually.
Did a couple hundred easy yards in the River before the race. Went to the bathroom twice. Did some mild yoga stretching.
