St. Anthony's Triathlon
80F / 27C
Sunny
Total Time = 2h 59m 20s
Overall Rank = 2132/3600
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 257/332
Pre-race routine:

Normal Pre-Race routine, got up ate my Cheese Pizza, Mentally prepared for the race using visuals what / how I wanted each segment of the race to go. As it turned out, my visuals were far from what actually happened.
Swim
  • 36m 7s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 25s / 100 meters
Comments:

Overall I felt the swim was just as comparable as last year. I figured something out this year, even though I can swim the distances, because of my in-effeciency in the water that IT is what kills my run times at the end of the race. Note to self, learn how to swim.

What would you do differently?:

Learn to swim more efficiently, although I did everything the same as last year, and my time was pretty much the same.
Transition 1
  • 02m 25s
Comments:

Used Body glide on the bottom of the suit this time and practiced getting out of the suit over the past few weeks, so I had not problems like I did at the Clermont race earlier this month.
What would you do differently?:

Transition went smooth, not much more I would do differently at the moment.
Bike
  • 1h 14m 22s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 20.05 mile/hr
Comments:

This year I was forced to ride my road bike due to my TTX being in the shop with a cracked top tube. I lost 1mph from last years race, causing me to lose over over 3 minutes from last year. I had a decent ride considering I was not aero, and the bike is not fit for me to come off and run, so by the end of the ride from Time Trialing on a Road bike, my Hamstrings were shot, but over all I thought a good ride.
What would you do differently?:

After I started riding, and if I ever have to ride the road bike again, I will use my Aero helmet instead of the my Atmos. I didnt think about it and just went with the normal flow, of road bike = road helmet. I would have definitely would have benefited from its use.
Transition 2
  • 02m 25s
Comments:

That my transitions were much better this race then just 3 weeks ago.
What would you do differently?:

I still need to get the Yankz for those damn shoes!

Run
  • 1h 02m 57s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 10m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

Well couple of things . . just couldn't get it together on the run. I had issues with my legs coming off the bike, I had fatigue about half way through, my best mile was probably between 5-6-finish, probably due to the adrenaline of finishing. I think that the week of having the Flu and not training really worked against me today, as 3 weeks earlier on an much harder course I was able to maintain a 9 min mile and I averaged 10 min mile today.
What would you do differently?:

Not get the Flu and get my Time Trial Bike back
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

I think the week of the Flu set me back for this race, even though I felt great, that lost week of training really took its toll today. I also think being on the road bike that is fit for me to ride road races and Crits, was not optimal for this course and then having to run afterwards.

Event comments:

St. Anthony's continues to be my favorite race of the season, mainly because its right here in my back yard, but also it is one of the best ran and organized races I have ever races going on 5 years now, and each year they just out do themselves from the years past.

Age Group: 282/332
Overall: 0/3600
Performance: Below average
Suit: Yes
Course: The swim in inlet near the pier of Tampa bay was a bit more choppy then last year which caused me to take in some salt water from time to time, but overall I sway my normal pace adjusting for the chop breathing on the side that caused me to inhale less water. After the final buoy and the turn to sure, it was nice to have the "chop" pushing me into shore. I was slower off last years pace by 39 seconds.
