Pre-race routine:

The usual. Bagel, water, drive to race with Tom. I was really nervous this morning - this was my first 10K race. I've done 5Ks and a Half Marathon, but never a 10K.
Event warmup:

Tom and I jogged around the park and tried to stay warm. Ran into one of Tom's co-workers who was doing the race with his German Shepherd, how cool! When it was time to take the pants off and get to the start line I realized how cold it was! Rocked the running skirt and long-sleeved hot pink shirt.

Comments:

My goal was to run this race at 10:00 miles or faster. So I knew that at each kilometer I needed to stay in internals of six (6:00, 12:00, 18:00, etc). The first 3-4 Kilometers I was under the 6:00 pace by 15 or 20 seconds - yeah! After the halfway point I could feel myself slowing down a bit, but I kept telling myself "This is a race!" and I'd pick it up.

Kilometers 7-8 I was actually OVER the 6:00 pace, uuggh. Made a real effort to pick it up for the last 2K.

I saw Tom near the end and he pointed at the clock and said "if you hurry you can beat 1 hour" which was actually my super secret goal time. I had about 45 seconds, according to the official clock. I booked it so hard up to the finish line... passing 3 or 4 people on the way. I really wanted to beat 1 hour. AND I DID! My official time was something like 59:58, but I didn't cross the start line for about 18 seconds, so my watch said 59:40. Either way, I beat my super secret goal and am SO proud of myself!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing at all.
Post race
Warm down:

Found Tom to find that he PR'd by more than 3 minutes - WOWOW!!!! He is so freaking fast. He even got third in his AG, I was so proud of him. We both had GREAT races!

Put our pants back on, watched the 2-mile runners and waited for the awards ceremony. There was a BBQ and a live band, a great atmosphere.

Hit Chipotle and Starbucks on the way home. What more could a girl ask for?

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Experience.

Event comments:

A fun, fun, fun race that benefits Youth Horizons - a nonprofit fighting fatherlessness in our local community. Very organized, great atmosphere and great awards.
