Swim
Comments: passed 2 got passed by 0. nice steady swim no real issues. i caught one oter guy in the final 40 or so. it was not worth trying to pass and then catch the ladder, so i just hung on his feet and follwed him out. What would you do differently?: more consistency in swim workouts Transition 1
Comments: this was slowout of the pool then goggles off before the right turn on the carpet. found my bike with no issue grabbed a towel and dried off enough to make it easier to get a long sleeve jersey on. then the socks and then my shoes. while i was doing this i was thinking about a post where Bear told someone to practice transitions after being soaked down with a hose..... yep that would have helped. when everything was together i ran out to the mount line with no issue. What would you do differently?: skip the socks on the bike and then put them on for the run Bike
Comments: considering that this was the second time i'd been on real road in about six weeks i was pleased with the result. the only thing i can do for now is to spend more time in the saddle. long term i need to replace the late 80's vintage frame and replace it with something more modern, but that depends on the budget. on the ride itself i had a lot of fun. i got passed by plenty of the fopers, but for those that got out of the pool about the time i did, i stayed with them, there was one guy that i played cat and mouse with for a while. i passed him for the last time and about 4 others on the final hill. What would you do differently?: more time in the saddle for training, otherwise there was not much more i could have done Transition 2
Comments: ok, so as i'm riding up to the dismount line i unbuckle the cinch's on my shoes, unclip the right and the left wanted to stay in so came to a stop dismounted and then ran to my transition. when i got to my rack i had to move 3 bikes out of the way to get mine racked this was painful as i was trying to not knock a bunck of < $3000 bikes off of te rack. when i finally got it racked the transition was smooth and off i went. What would you do differently?: work on dismounting from the bike Run
Comments: when i went out i concentrated on running a negative split. mile 1 was 8:36, mile 2 was 8:25, mile 3 was 8:09, and the last bit of the run was at 7:56. ok, so in transition the guy i had played cat and mouse with got ahead of me, i saw him way up ahead so he became my target. at the turnaround i had caught him and decided to make sure that he was not coming back to catch me in the end. strange observation from the trail... when you have nearly the entire width of the trail why would you intentionally run a line where you have to duck under low hanging limbs/branches? this was funny to observe bobbing heads from a distance. does it take more energy to take one step to the side or to duck? What would you do differently?: nothing Post race
Warm down: walked around past the finish line, almost lost my breakfast, then things calmed down and i was fine. once my stomach was under control i grabbed some water and found the BT contingent. it was great to see everyone and talk about the training plans for the rest of the season and what races are planned. then i went out to cheer the other finishers in What limited your ability to perform faster: inconsistent training Event comments: this was a good race. i treat it like my home race since well i live in Keller. i like the course, i train on most of it. the usual waffles and peanut butter, double check, triple check do i have everything kinda stuff. drove to the race site and set up my transition area. picked up my chip, get body marked and then checked, double checked, and triple checked again to see what in the worl i could have forgotten.
did some stretching then took the warmups off, grabbed the goggles, and then off to the pool. found Andy and Shannon and many of the other BT crew.
