![]() Swim
Comments: Overall I am pleased with the swim. I thought this would be my strongest performance but greatly underestimated the effects of nerves, splashing people and a first time OWS in a wetsuit. Felt like I was choking the first 200m. Ended up during breast stroke around the buoys to orientate myself. Finally got going on the back side. (almost swam over the 87 year old guy!!! really freaked me out) What would you do differently?: Since this is not a pool swim, I would practice ows in the wetsuit!! This has now been added to my training schedule. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Being wet my shirt bundled up when I tried to get it over my head so I think that cost me a good bit of time. Overall, having nothing to compare it to I think it went ok. What would you do differently?: Try to be faster and wear a loose shirt or a tri top under the wet suit. ![]() Bike
Comments: Had some trouble with my gears and the chain jumped off. It happened twice and I had to stop both times and put the chain back on. That definately cost me time so 4th in my group I am just ECSTATIC about! Slowed down the last 2 miles to reserve energy for the run. What would you do differently?: Try not to force my bike to do things that are not physically possible. Go harder in the beginning. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Thought I did really well on this one. Came to an almost screeching halt at the dismount line so full speed to the end! What would you do differently?: Don't know although I liked someones idea of no socks! ![]() Run
Comments: By far my worst, being a beginner runner I really suffered badly pretty much all through the first 2 miles. Third mile was better - probably with the end in sight my spirits were up a bit. Took a gel which definately helped. I had to walk at the water stations and up the worst hills. Most of my improvement should come in the run. What would you do differently?: I would have started running at 7 rather than 36!! ![]() Post race
Warm down: Ate some of the fruit and happy that we had brought granola bars from home. Forgot to stretch. What limited your ability to perform faster: Inexperience with the wetsuit and ows and basic running training. Event comments: I LOVED IT!! I am really excited about being a triathlete and can't wait to do it again. My husband and I did it together which was a great added bonus as well. Last updated: 2008-03-13 12:00 AM

Got up at 4:15AM and ate the (apparently) traditional peanut butter and honey sandwich, so the day started off tough!!. This was my very first tri and I was a little nervous. My husband was also there so he helped me get my bearings.
We ran a little bit around the lake and got in the water to warm up a bit.
