Swim
Comments: I was at 7:52 at the turnaround, and couldn't see anything on the way back. I had to depend on feet, bubbles, rays under the water, and sighting to the side in order to navigate...and i think i did all right! I did get a nasty kick to the head which has left me with a nasty headache (still have it) and i can't walk a straight line 'cuz i'm so dizzy (still have that too...) And it was way too congested at the end! I could have been a lot faster without the traffic jam... What would you do differently?: Don't get kicked in the head! haha Start closer to the front. If the swim is my strongest, I shouldn't be intimidated by the front of the pack anymore. Transition 1
Comments: My saddle fit under the rack during check-in...when there were no bikes! However, in the race, there are a lot more bikes sitting on that rack...and since the rack was weighed down, my saddle didn't fit under it anymore...so I had to tip the bike to get it out! What would you do differently?: Rack by the handlebars... Bike
Comments: My #1 goal was to make sure dad didn't catch me on the bike 'cuz he's so darn fast! HE DIDN'T! I think I did great considering my lack of appropriate training. The only thing that was difficult was the headwind on 93rd...that and the congestion at the end of the bike!!!! What would you do differently?: TRAIN MORE! Transition 2
Comments: My transition was that long? Wow...i felt like i was flying in and outta there! My bike was hard to rack, again, due to the high saddle, low rack...but my shoes flew off, and I was outta there like lightning! (or so i thought) What would you do differently?: Rack by the handlebars Run
Comments: I think that's the fastest run I've done yet this year! I was hurting pretty bad for the first mile, but after that, I was kinda enjoying myself. It's good to distract yourself by cheering on other runners... What would you do differently?: train more for speed! Post race
Warm down: stretched, drank a bottle of endura and a bottle of water, got an ultralean bar, and waited at the finish line to cheer on dad, kristina, shelle, and berta. What limited your ability to perform faster: Injured anterior tibialis and respiratory bacterial infection...and the congestion at the end of the swim and bike! getting hit in the head wasn't enjoyable either... Event comments: It would be nice if they re-routed the sprint swim so there was less of a chance of getting banged in the head. I realize it's all part of the game, but when it's an out & back, and you've got 2 lanes of traffic swimming that closely, and one is swimming blind, you're bound to have injuries...other than that, GREAT RACE! Woke up every 15 minutes after 2 am before i finally got up for GOOD at 4. (The adrenaline rush was making me shaky...my heart rate was out of control!) Grabbed breakfast (UltraLean bar, Endura, UltraMeal, and a banana...UltraLean for the road), and my pre-packed stuff, and headed to the race at 4:20.
Set up transition with my nifty list, which made things go so much more smoothly. Shared transition space with Kristina.
Got a warm up swim in, and then froze to death since the air temp was still cold. My inner thighs cramped up from shivering! Hung out with dad for a bit, and then got lined up for the start.
