Swim
Comments: Thought I could do much better than 5:34 for 300 yards. I gave my time at 4:51 so I was 40 seconds slower than anticipated. Overall not too bad. I didn't start out too fast like I usually do which was good. What would you do differently?: Start off a little faster or finish stronger. Transition 1
Comments: I don't think I could have cut any more time off. Bike
Comments: Pretty good AVS (20.5). I think if I lost about 15lbs I would be up to 22 AVS. I kept a pretty consistent cadence and pushed it pretty good. What would you do differently?: Not much... I think weight was the biggest factor. Transition 2
Comments: Legs were pretty tight, but not too the point where they cramped. What would you do differently?: Probably could have shaved a couple seconds if I just dropped my helmet instead of think about it too much. Run
Comments: I felt really good on the run. Kept it at 7:30/mile which was much faster than I thought it was. I don't think I could have pushed it any harder without blowing it up. What would you do differently?: nothing Post race
Warm down: Just walked around and drank vitamin water. What limited your ability to perform faster: Probably the swim. Otherwise, I think my 195 lbs can't compete with those in the top 5 of my age group. If I want to break into the top five I probably need to get down to 180ish. Event comments: Overall, it was a good race. I will sign up to do this one again. It's a great course to see how fast you really are. I am disapointed that I didn't break the top 10 though, but the guys who did finished in less than an hour. ARE YOU KIDDING ME. LESS THAN AN HOUR? I was shooting for less than 1:05 overall and missed that by 2 minutes. The guys in the top 5 in the St. Patty's day tri were less than 1:05 so I figured I could get up there if I made that. The thing i have to think about again is that I would have placed 2nd if I went Clydesdale. I could have easily put on 5lbs in the last week to meet the cutoff. Of course, I feel a little guilty doing that and not just trying to compete in my AG. More to ponder I guess. One thing that was weird about the placement on this race. I was in the top 10% overall but only top 27% in my AG. I guess that shows how competitive the 35-39 AG is. Last updated: 2008-03-15 12:00 AM

Nothing unusual. I got up at 4:00 and took my time getting ready. A little coffee to get going, and had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
I drank gatorade while getting ready at transition, and had a gu pack right before I took off to swim. I swam 100 yards in the pool to loosen up, and I can't decide if that helped or not.
