Run
Comments: Started a few people back from the start because I am not a good runner, I felt horrible, and the conditions were awful. The time I ran is outstanding for me on a dry flat road much less in the conditions I ran it, so I was happy. My HR was too high, but the race was short enough it didn't make much difference. What would you do differently?: Go out with the lead group and see if I could hang with big boys. Transition 1
Comments: The only thing that slowed me was that my shoes were in a plasitic bag. I ran through it easily and got out on my way. What would you do differently?: Leave the shoes out or on the bike. They were soaked within minutes anyways. Bike
Comments: The roads had standing water and lots of unpatched potholes so this made keeping a good line next to impossible. I was able to stay in Aero 95% of the time (We had a wet wood bridge to cross on each lap that required me up), so I was happy with that. I climbed well and keep a good pace, but should have pushed a little harder. What would you do differently?: Push harder on the second and first half of the third lap. Transition 2
Comments: The only issue I had here was people around my tranistion area in my way. For some reason there was a group of people right next to my rack that got in my way a little. What would you do differently?: not much Run
Comments: So I thought the course was bad the first time, it was beyond awful after 180 people went through once. I ran out of transition just behind two other guys and thought this was great because I had someone in sight to run after. I just couldn't close the gap, and they beat me by about 4 seconds. I had passed my buddy Mike on the bike at the start of the second loop and thought I had enough room to fend him off. I was wrong! He is a runner that is what he does, and with his sub six minute mile pace he ran me down with about a 1/4 mile to go and blew by me like I was standing still. I tried to go with him to pass the guys in front of me, but my legs would not go! What would you do differently?: Not much, maybe HTFU and pass the two guys right in front of me! Post race
Warm down: Got some water and a cookie and then ran a mile or so with Mike. What limited your ability to perform faster: I think it was Mental toughness today. My fitness has improved a lot (without me knowing it) and I needed my mind to push to my limt. Event comments: For having cold weather and rain, the race director did a good job of keeping everyone safe and moving along. Last updated: 2008-03-17 12:00 AM

Woke up to my daughter crying at about 4:30 so I got up, comforted her and set about my getting ready for the race. Drove the hour to the race and got thier way too early. Registered and then sat in my car forever! Set up my transition with everything in bags because it was raining.
Found my buddy Mike and we ran on the course to find a place in the woods to pee and then ran back. Did some strides and form running (Mike is a running coach) then just try not to get cold before the start.
