Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:30. Drank coffee, water, ate bannana, and half of bagel. Did lots of stretching during the long race announcements.
Swim
  • 05m 18s
  • 300 yards
  • 01m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

Other then falling in the pool at the begining, it was a great swim. Last race I forgot to hit my stop watch. So the race starter tells me to go, I'm looking down at my watch while taking a step forward, and hello there is a drop off into the pool. I'm lucky I did not hurt myself. I think I heard laughing while I was swimming. Got my stop watched started on time though. I passed three people during the swim without really swimming hard. I stayed very relaxed with my breathing and kick turns.
What would you do differently?:

Not fall in the pool to start the race. I'm sure everyone got a good laugh at that one.
Transition 1
  • 01m 58s
Comments:

Could not get my bike jersey on to save my life. I also put socks on for my bike shoes do to the cold.
What would you do differently?:

Need to buy a triathlon outfit to swim in, so I do not have to put another shirt on.
Bike
  • 44m 30s
  • 13.8 miles
  • 18.61 mile/hr
Comments:

I accomplished my goal of completing the bike in 45 minutes. It felt good to pass up some of the double digit numbers that started before me. The only bikers that passed my up had $5000 bikes. I'm still having "race my own race" issues. I got frustrated towards the end b/c this 52 guy passes me and then slows down. So I pass him back and stay on pace. Then he passes me again, so I back off to let him have the lead. I should have just passed him out right and biked harder to get away from him. It is kind of like driving on interstate with cruise control and there is that one car that you pass in cruise control. Then the car repasses you, then you pass the car again. This also happened at my last race towards the end. I kept with my hydration plan of half gatorade/water in my sport bottle.
What would you do differently?:

Go harder at the end. Do not let other racers determine what my pace should be.
Transition 2
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

Overall good transition. Cannot think of anything else to change. Having to take my bike socks off and then putting on my running socks took more time then usual. We had to bike through some running water and I did not want to run in wet socks.
What would you do differently?:

Not wear socks for the bike.
Run
  • 28m 49s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

Going hard on the bike made my legs a little bit weak. I did not get my running legs until the 2 mile mark. I really got into stride and over came the big hill in the end. I know I suck at running. I had to fight off the walking demons a lot during the run. Kept on looking out over the lake to keep my mind off of the run. Getting passed on the run helps me keep going. At least a sprinted to the finish.
What would you do differently?:

Need to concentrate on running more without getting shin splints.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched a lot with Rhonda. Ate an orange and bannana.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Endurance on the run.

Event comments:

Some of the racers complain about a turn that was not marked right. I did not see it?
