Swim
Comments: Goal was 40 minutes so I was very happy with the results. What would you do differently?: Nothing, maybe swim faster. Transition 1
Comments: Felt good leaving T1. Actually felt great considering swim time. What would you do differently?: Get faster. Bike
Comments: Let the madness begin. Around mile 15 a guy told me my seat bottle holder was loose. I rode on until I heard the same thing again from someone else. I pulled over to fix it and thats when I saw that it was broken. I pulled everything out that I could and loaded up my tiny pocket in my tri jersey. I emptied my two bottles into my aero bottle and drank the rest. Threw the bottles away so I did not have the extra weight. Around mile 28 on a downhill I hit a rough part of road and my aero bottle broke loose, hit my front tire, shot out in front of me about twenty feet then went under the guard rail and down the mountain. Now I am down to one bottle holder with 28 miles to go. Good thing was the big hills were still to come. Made my way through and back to transition. I was ready to get off the bike with the bad luck and get on the run. with my bottles gone I was not drinking near enough and would later pay for that. What would you do differently?: Drink more and take in more calories. Transition 2
Comments: Felt good in transition and thought I was pretty quick considering the horrible bike I just had. What would you do differently?: Get faster. Run
Comments: Got to mile two feeling good. At mile two I started throwing up anything I took in. This lasted until mile 8. I should have been pulled from the race but I kept moving and trying to eat and drink. I kept throwing up until I hit mile 8 when I tried a banana again and it stayed. I was able to drink some and keep it down so I started running around mile 8. I ran the rest of the race expect one last hill coming out of "the pit". What would you do differently?: Stay focused on nutrition on the bike. Post race
Warm down: Cold beer and a chicken burrito, then a margarita. What limited your ability to perform faster: Hydration and nutrition. Event comments: I'm glad I did not quit. I am also glad that I was able to stay with the bonk recovery and finish out. Lots of lessons learned and will take that into my training for Lake Placid and Florida. Also happy with all the things that happened, I moved on and did not let it beat me down too bad. Wildflower is one hell of a race and everyone should do it at least once. Ate a banana and a small bowl of oatmeal. Hiked down to transition, aero bottle fell off bike on the way down, should have been an insight into my day.
Not much warm up, lots of standing around having to pee. Got to get in the water and swim a little before my wave. Did some arm movements to stay loose.
