Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:30 for a small bowl of oatmeal and english muffin. Put water bottles in car and drove out to Alabma for the race, well within 10 miles of being in Alabama.
Event warmup:

Did a very light jog and then got suited and swam out to the first buoy and back.
Swim
  • 12m 32s
  • 656 yards
  • 01m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

Started out on the side which helped stay out of the chaos but there was no one to draft off of. Once I got back into the pack I was catching the previous waves slower swimmers and had to move around them a bunch. Never really found a solid person to draft off of.
What would you do differently?:

Start off in the front of the group and find someone to draft off of.
Transition 1
  • 01m 58s
Comments:

Just a slow transition, glad I did this race to get my transition shit together before wildflower.
What would you do differently?:

Pull my head out of my ass.
Bike
  • 30m 58s
  • 11.2 miles
  • 21.70 mile/hr
Comments:

Good ride, did not push as hard as I wanted to. Next week is the big race and will push it there a bit more.
What would you do differently?:

None.
Transition 2
  • 01m 26s
Comments:

None.
What would you do differently?:

Need to get helmet off, put on shoes, grab race belt and visor and take off.
Run
  • 29m 41s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

In hind sight, I guess I did not drink enough on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Try and drink more on the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

Had two bottles of water after the race. On the way home from the race went and did a one hour Zone 1 run at columns drive.

Event comments:

This was a very well run race. It was a training race for me so I did not push it. I have decided I like longer distances, it just takes me too long to get settled down and into my grove. Anyway a good race to get the transitions back down and get into the mental game before the A races.

HR spiked on the run for the first two miles for some reason. Average for first two miles was 162, then the last mile was 145. Speed for the first two was a little over 10 minute miles, the last mile was 8:24. The 8:24 was with the lower HR, I dont know what the hell was going on.
Course: Out and back with lots of hills, probably a portion of my HR issues.
