Swim
Comments: I was in heat #8...race start at 6:34am. Water was MUCH warmer than last year!!! Woo hoo!! Swim time includes the 1/4 mile run to transition area. What would you do differently?: Maybe start closer up front...had a lot of people in my way. Swim harder. Transition 1
Comments: Not a bad transition. With 8700 bikes the run time to the bike from swim in and with the bike to bike out is quite a bit. Had a little trouble with wetsuit at heels...but not to bad. Suit juice helped bunch! What would you do differently?: practice with taking off wetsuit more. Bike
Comments: I love this bike course. It's a bit rough on the north side. But so fast!! Should have pushed it just a little more...would have broken the 20mph avg. mark. Only got passed by people with really nice aero bikes. Ate a GU w/ water around mile 5. drank gatorade when thirsty. What would you do differently?: push harder. Was trying to save legs for the run...probably could have gone a little harder. Transition 2
Comments: Felt fast. running shoes went on quick...new bungee laces worked like a charm. What would you do differently?: maybe faster getting bike on rack. ? Run
Comments: felt good on the run...too good. Need to push more. Although I was only 30 seconds off my PR of 26:32 What would you do differently?: RUN HARDER!!! I find my training pace and stick there. Need to push much harder. And more training...get faster overall. 1/2 marathon training this fall/winter will help that. Post race
Warm down: water, gatorade, bagel. Then egg burrito, turkey sausage, and watermelon at the 'picnic' What limited your ability to perform faster: Afraid to push too hard on bike and run. Didn't want to run out of steam early. Event comments: Pre-race goal : to beat last year's time of 1:38:32. I cut 6 1/2 minutes off last year's time!! Even though I probably could have pushed more and cut even more time off....I'm happy with the results. This is such a killer triathlon!!!! BTW, I heard 8700 participants this year! Got up at 2:30am. Left my sister's at 3:10am. Got the event at 4:15am or so. Farther back in line than last year. It was nice that they opened up the gates at the top of the hill for the Sprint distance people.
Food: Ate a cliff bar/water around 3:30am. Had some shot blocks around 5:45am.
not much. a little stretching.
