Pre-race routine:

It's a local race so I could wake up past 6:00 AM. Yes! Had a coffee and granola.
Event warmup:

Virtually no warm-up.. Start time was delayed, and we all just kept sitting waiting and forgot to do any warm-up ;)

Also, they ran out of cups at 8:00 AM, and I had no water to drink for 2 hours before the start :( This messed up my run at the end.
Swim
  • 12m 47s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 34s / 100 yards
Comments:

Pretty good swim overall. Started at the front of my wave and stayed with lead pack. Got on someone's feet and drafted off of him until the turnaround. Then we ran into a lot of people from the previous wave, and my fish slowed down, so I passed him, and it was his turn to draft me on the way back. He actually passed me again with about 100 yards to go and went very fast at the finish. I decided not to follow him and was out of the water a few seconds later.
What would you do differently?:

Drink more water before the start!!!

Maybe a stronger finish.

Need a smaller wetsuit! Price you pay for losing weight :(
Transition 1
  • 02m 37s
Comments:

Lost a second or two getting out of the water.. Glad that volunteers helped out! Did a recovery jog to the bike rack. Wet suit was off in no time since it's a bit too big for me. Long jog to the mount line. Jumped on the bike, got up to 15mph and had to trouble getting feet into the shoes before the first turn.

3rd fastest transition in my AG, but almost 1 minuter slower than 1st place overall. Wow! Some guys are very good runners.
What would you do differently?:

Run a bit faster. Try getting helmet on while removing suit.
Bike
  • 36m 7s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 20.65 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt pretty good on the bike. There were way too many people to pass, so had to stay on the left pretty much the entire time. Got passed by 3-4 riders, and played cat-and-mouse with one guy in my AG. Turns were pretty slow due to number of riders. Had a scary moment at the end of the first lap when I went into a turn a bit too fast and took a turn to the finish and had to go back to the course. I don't think they had any signs at that point.
What would you do differently?:

Be a bit more careful at the turns.
Transition 2
  • 01m 49s
Comments:

Jumped off the bike about 3 feet before the line. 4th fastest T2.
What would you do differently?:

Don't slow down too much before jumping off the bike
Run
  • 24m 15s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 48s  min/mile
Comments:

Took 1/2 mile to get my running legs. Then got passed by a guy in my AG, and decided to stay with him. This worked until the very end when he sprinted away and I had nothing left. Sun came out on the run, and it was HOT! I didn't drink enough water. Had an embarrassing fall 15 meters before the finish :( and I actually thought I'd already finished by then /sigh Thanks to spectators who cheered me to the "real" finish line ;) LOL
What would you do differently?:

Look at the finish before the race to know where exactly the finish line is.

Drink more on the run!!! Even though it's just a 5k, but I was already dehydrated during the swim/bike.
Post race
Warm down:

Sat down and drank 2 bottles of water. Felt dizzy for a while.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Bad hydration

Event comments:

Loved it!
