Total Time = 1h 08m 58s
Overall Rank = 239/602
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 12/25
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4 - drove up to Boca - race started at 7:30.
Event warmup:

Not too much.
Swim
  • 10m 14s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 20s / 100 yards
Comments:

Warm, clear, and calm water. Perfect Conditions. Started in the front. Got trampled on. By the time I found my rythym I had already drank a good 4 or 5 gulps of ocean water and was hard to really relax and work of form.
What would you do differently?:

Start in the back/sides and gradually pass people. Relax and concentrate on breathing.

Practice!
Transition 1
  • 03m 35s
Comments:

I took my time to recover from the swim. I felt pretty bad from drinking so much water on the swim, so I felt I needed to get a drink and let my heart rate go down as I put on my shoes. Sat down, put on shoes and socks. Caught my breath. Drank some water.

Had to walk on the runway through tunnel because of the rocks and gravel (i didn't have sandals). I should have been able to get out a minute faster if it were not for the gravel.
Bike
  • 31m 3s
  • 10 miles
  • 19.32 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt strong. Could have ridden longer at my pace - so probably should have gone harder.

What would you do differently?:

Get bike shoes (my sneakers were sliding to the middle of the pedals.

Get computer so I know I am keeping the correct cadence.

Practice.
Transition 2
  • 01m 3s
Comments:

Smooth transition. Reasonable time. Didn't have to clip off and change shoes though, so this will be one I'll have to practice.
Run
  • 23m 5s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 27s  min/mile
Comments:

Need to practice bricks. Felt slow and stiff to start. From .5 miles to 1.5, I really could not find my groove.

Halfway through the race I stopped to tie my shoes and take off my shirt (I always feel stronger without it). After that I really picked up the pace and began to feel good. I passed a ton of people (i only got passed once after the first mile) and was able to stretch out my legs.
What would you do differently?:

Keep training.

My next goal is to break 20 minutes in a 5k by mid-May.
Post race
Event comments:

Perfect First Race. Look forward to doing it again next year!
