Comments:

I felt relaxed the whole time and thought I did well sighting. Sighting on first leg was hit and miss as the waves were too tall to see the bouy, but if I caught a valley, I could find the bouy. After second bouy, I headed straight for the ambulance and felt like I was right on course, but ended up inside the bouys. I still felt like I was swimming straight for the ambulance lights, but 45 min is 9 min longer than it took last year (on a different course). Not sure if the 9 min was the new course, the chop / wind, bad sighting ???

Comments:

I felt good about the bike - usually my weakest. Headed south and west, there were some strong winds, but we got a little push once we turned around. Absolutely poured about 5 times on the bike course. I was sweating before it started raining, but have no idea of nutrician / sweat rate after the first rain spurt. At times, it was difficult to see very much in front of me due to rain, wind, spray. Still pleased with 18 MPH. Butt was sore afterwards. Didn't help that my shorts / butt was wet for 3 hours.
Transition 2
  • 03m 43s
Comments:

Must put on Injinji socks to avoid blisters. Socks were drenched...took a little time to get toes in the socks.
Run
  • 2h 40m

Comments:

Totally blew up due to GI. I followed the bike nutrician as best I could, but probably had too much in my belly for the run. It wasn't 88 degrees and sunny, it was low 70's, so I probably did not process the gatorade. Ran to 3.5 then had to walk to mile 5. Felt slightly better, tried to run again, no luck. Punted on run nutrician. Started to feel a little better at mile 8 (had to walk much of 3.5 to 8). Started to run at mile 8 and got a side cramp. Took salt and 1 GU at mile 10. Cramp finally let up about the time my ankle flaired up. Run walk combo for the whole 13 miles blew up my time. Probably 30 people in AG passed me on the run. Awesome to see Doug standing on the last hill as I ran across the bridge thought!
What would you do differently?:

Need to modify bike nutritican to set up the run better. Stand alone bike nutrician and stand alone run nutrician seem to be right, but bike right into run didn't work.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nutrician boff.

Event comments:

The New Burlington volunteers rocked. I think the whole town was helping out on the course!

My goal was to finish and I did that, so I'm pleased. Now....how to improve...
