Total Time = 12h 47m 40s
Overall Rank = 96/319
Age Group = Clydesdale
Age Group Rank = 2/14
Pre-race routine:

woke early and ate a powerbar and drank my hydrate. I was worried because I still felt kind of full from the late dinner and I couldn't eat much in the morning. I think that was a very smart choice.
Event warmup:

none
Swim
  • 1h 10m 15s
  • 3862 meters
  • 01m 49s / 100 meters
Comments:

This was an iron distance PR for me. I probably could have gotten into the 1:09 range, maybe a bit faster but I got caught behind and between a couple slower guys that I could not seem to get around. It probably didn't take as long as it seemed like it did.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 1
  • 03m 54s
Comments:

I was intentionally taing it fairly easy through transition. I don't think I wasted any time but I didn't hurry either.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 6h 05m 8s
  • 112 miles
  • 18.40 mile/hr
Comments:

The winds and heat made the ride more difficult and the complete lack of any mile markers made it a psychologically difficult course.
What would you do differently?:

I can't think of anything I would have done differently but I guess you can always train more and harder.
Transition 2
  • 04m
Comments:

I really took it easy through T2 wanting my HR to drop before heading out on the run. I also had some difficulty getting my compression socks on but it was worth the extra time.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 5h 24m 22s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 12m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

Not only was the course hard but it was brutally hot, 98 degrees. It was a real struggle to keep cool and I was a bit sloppy in the beginning just despratly trying to stay cool and I got my shoes too wet and my feet started to get very tender. I tried to control the blistering, which I did pretty successfully and only ended up with a blister on one foot that was not bad enough to stop me.
What would you do differently?:

I would have been more careful to keep my shoes dry.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

The heat and the rough roads.

Event comments:

This is a classic race, a must do for all triathletes.
