Swim
Comments: Racers go off every 3 seconds. So you have this flow of people making their turns into the second loop and people entering the water to start. It gets crazy. I was molested big time. Last year I found a clearing but this year not so much. Too many people take to running along the shallow edge as well. It was crazy and I lost a lot of time in the water. I should have been able to get out in close to 6:00. Oh well. What would you do differently?: Cheat my finish time to get myself in the lower numbers to start toward the front. This would also get my toward the front side of the transition area. Transition 1
Comments: I will never race another race without the shoes on the bike.No other reason for being this slow. I am giving up way too much time in transition. What would you do differently?: Read above. Bike
Comments: Road pretty hard. Was moving through the pack and only got passed right at the end. I could have stayed tucked in and let people pace me out but I felt like I was always charging. I felt pretty good about the bike. What would you do differently?: Get better to get my average speed up. Transition 2
Comments: Again with the shoes and bike thing. With the slick pavement this was making it even harder to run in the bike shoes. The Zoots (running flats) however make getting to the run so very easy. A smart investment. What would you do differently?: I will transition like a pro from now on. Run
Comments: First mile in 6:22. Passed by one guy right away but moved up through the ranks all through the run (until some tool jumped me right at the line). Had some quad and side cramping just slightly come on into mile 2.5ish. Held back a little fearing the worst. I dialed down a bit so I could run through it but it cost me about 45 seconds or so as I figure according to the fall off in my pace. Also I have to get it into my head that this isn't a road race. I settled a little bit at the end knowing I couldn't catch the guys in front of me - dummy! There are dudes in your age group who started behind you in the swim who are catching you in virtual time out on the course. I need to compete against the clock and not the person in front of me. What would you do differently?: Going to practice over salting a little to see if that help me a bit. Try some endurolytes in addition to everything else. Gotta be a way around some of these issues. Post race
Warm down: Walk, walk and stretch and food. What limited your ability to perform faster: I had the theme from Gilligan's Island stuck in my head and it tormented me the whole race. Damn you Sherwood Schwartz! Event comments: Felt ok. I'm headed in the right direction at least. Last updated: 2008-03-29 12:00 AM

Had to get up early for this one. Up by 3:40 to try and leave by 4:15. Got up and it was pouring. Looked up the radar to see if there was reason to not go and climb back in bed. Nope. Had a mini-clif bar and made my way around to finally leaving at 4:30. Made it to race site by 5:10. EZ parking and EZ getting chip and marked.
None although I should add this to the routine. Got set up in nothing flat and took care of personal things. Note to self: keep spare roll of toilet paper in bag no matter what. Met up with other BTers (Dave, David and Jess) and got in line for the swim. Uneventful at best. Felt pretty relaxed. Just kept to myself mostly and really didn't over think it.
