Swim
Comments: Time was slow compared to field, but this was my very first competition OWS and I am still a very weak swimmer. I had set a personal goal of completing the swim in under 15 minutes, and the CAT group swim on the previous Thursday left me very concerned about being able to even complete the swim at all. All things considered, I am not disappointed with the swim results. What would you do differently?: I need a swim coach!!!!! Transition 1
Comments: There was about a 200 yard run from the beach back to the transition area. Did not wear a wet suit and I took my goggles and swim cap off as I exited the water and ran with them in my hand. Tossed goggles and cap onto my towels once I was at the bike rack. Put on socks that I had previously rolled up and prepared. Put on bike shoes, grabbed bike and ran with bike about 50 yards to the mount line. What would you do differently?: Not much. Maybe run a little faster to the transition area, but was trying to get my heart rate back down and didn't want to push too hard. Bike
Comments: I kept the bike geared in a mid-range most of the time. Passed lots of riders along the course. Had a gel pack and some water about half way along the course. I don't know if it helped or hurt. It sat heavy on my stomach for the rest of the race. What would you do differently?: I don't know. I pushed myself as hard as I wanted to considered the temperature and the run that was ahead. Transition 2
Comments: Arrived at dismount line with 5 other bikers. Rubbed tires with a couple going across the timing mat. Appoligized and kept going. Racked bike, helmut off, bike shoes off, running shoes on a sip of G2 and out. What would you do differently?: Don't know. Run
Comments: Very hot, stomach was nauseated througout. I had set a personal goal of sub 24 minutes. I was a little disappointed in the time, but considering the heat and my performance on the swim and bike, I'll take it. What would you do differently?: Maybe not take the gel on the bike course. Post race
Warm down: Walked around a lot. What limited your ability to perform faster: New to the sport. Need more conditioning and coaching especially in the swim. Event comments: For my second triathlon ever it was great! It was challenging and I had a great time. Last updated: 2008-03-30 12:00 AM

Stated drinking lots of G2 the day before. Forecast high for race day was over 100. Race time forecast was to be in the mid 80s going up to 90 by the end of the race. It's going to be hot!
Woke up at 0400! Read morning Bible passages. Drank two cups of coffee and ate two pieces of dry whole wheat toast. Prepared a bowl of instant oatmeal but decided not to eat it because of the forecast temperatures. Loaded up the truck and left for Yorktown at 0530. Arrived at Yorktown Courthouse parking lot right at 0600. Walked down to the tranisition area with Melissa and Matt. Got the timing chip and body marked. Found bike rack and got tranisition area set up. All was completed by about 0630.
With the walk and the quickly rising temperatures, didn't do much warming up. Stretched a little and walked around the transition area.
