Pre-race routine:

1 cup oatmeal, 3 eggs, gatoraide. got to race and set up in transition area.
Event warmup:

talked to a few people i know and just walked around a little bit. 1/4 mile run, karieoakie... 50 push ups, stretch, high knees.

Comments:

Started out hard. navigation was good but hit the rope between the bouy's, Breathing ony out of left side so that i could keep my eye on the roap/bouy's. the water only had 6" visiability so looking for the roap was a litte ruff. I think i was around 7th getting out of the watter in my heat. i swam most of the race with out any one around me.
What would you do differently?:

start with breathing on 3 strokes so that i could stick with it all the way insted of starting with 2 only on left side.

put socks on quick, and had a little trouble with sunglasses. Having the wet suit half off on the run up helped a bunch! and using a tri suit was great. There was a little clog up with people trying to get on their bike right out of the transition. I ran past about 4-5 people and jumped on bike. shoes were already on clips so road out of traffic with feet just on top on shoes. got in to them all the way after first turn and going down hill.

put sunglasses on right away. then helmet.

number 409 and i were batterling it out good. he started buy passing me on the first corner when i was putting my feet in... Then up the hil passed him.. 3 hill he passed me... flat i passed him.... This goes on for all 3 laps. Nice guy. I think i cut him off a few times on accident. told him sorry on beging of 3rd lap. he said "its good competition and we keep pushing each other", I said " lets keep it up". down hill he passes, up hill i pass... etc... i got in to tran frist!
What would you do differently?:

drink water at the begining of the race and not so much towards the end.

got of bike good... ran right to my position, got running shors on fast. helmet off good... and took off... to the rong exit! i went to the bike exit insted of the run exit. all of the voulenteer were yelling wow.. wow... over here. rong way!!! it was kind of funny.

run to the right exit!!!!!

started off slower... after the 1/4 mile here come's good ol #409. he says as he come up ... "i didnt know you were goign to be wating for me"... "i said this is where i get slow, for being big, ill try to catch up with you" after that all i could sing was..... Beach Boys Gidey up 409... for about 5 minutes. then just kept going.... at the first water station i got a cup and pretended to give the girl an alley oop with the crushd cup but it went in ... i thought Finger roll!!! hahah...

then just started runnin... felt great!
What would you do differently?:

got a side cramp ... figure out how not to get one.
Post race
Warm down:

grabed water, bagle, bananna, yogert, and went to find my parents and my pup!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Only breating on my left side on swim, side cramp on run

Event comments:

I got 4th place male 25-29. and 4# out of ### total. I would say not too shabby for the first race of the year....
