Pre-race routine:

I woke up before the alarm went off. We were planning on leaving the house around 6:30. Since my wave didn't take off until 9:00, I ate breakfast on site (clif bar and later a luna bar).

Loved having "real" bathrooms.

We had trouble finding the kid's camp, but made it in plenty of time to start the race.
Event warmup:

none. I don't have a wet suit and didn't want to stand around in the cool air wet.
Swim
  • 25m 19s
  • 1039 yards
  • 02m 26s / 100 yards
Comments:

I felt good on the swim. My time was an improvement from last year. It is hard to measure improvement on open water swims because you never know how accurate the courses are from year to year.
This time is what I would expect from my pool swim times.
There were some fast girls in the wave behind me who swam over us around the second buoy turn.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe buy a wetsuit? Continue to work on swimming.
Transition 1
  • 02m 34s
Comments:

My phone was in my bike shoes. I am not sure how that happened. Heart rate good on the run from the swim to transition and from transition to bike out.
What would you do differently?:

Don't put my phone in my bike shoe. Make sure to put helmet on first before shoes.
Bike
  • 1h 36m 3s
  • 28 miles
  • 17.49 mile/hr
Comments:

Wow! A huge improvement from last year. I have a new bike so I can get into aero position, which is needed for this course. Felt comfortable throughout. I started to get bored towards the end of the ride (there was no one to talk to and nothing to look at).
What would you do differently?:

practice riding hard by myself
Transition 2
  • 02m 38s
Comments:

Really slow on T2. I took my time putting on my shoes and socks. I bumped into someone at bike dismount because I jumped off my bike and started running and she stopped completely.
What would you do differently?:

Continue practicing transition and dismount
Run
  • 1h 08m 17s
  • 6.5 miles
  • 10m 30s  min/mile
Comments:

It was really hot. I didn't want to walk, but ended up walking after mile 3. Taking a gu helped my attitude, so I felt better after that and I walked the waterstops.

LOVED the sponges.
What would you do differently?:

I need to run outside more. Continue working on running because this offsets my bike time and swim time.
Post race
Warm down:

cool towels. I really needed that.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I haven't raced since July, so I should have practiced my transitions. Losing weight would help too.

Event comments:

This is the best race I have ever done. My son loved the kids camp. I loved the shirt, hat and water bottle. Loved all of the thoughtful details.
Great organization and lots of fun.
