Swim
Comments: This year I had a very difficult time getting my HR down after the start. We had to tread for about 3 minutes before the start and was getting tired. Had to roll over and do the back stroke to relax, then everytime I flipped back over I'd swallow more water and get paniced then have to back stroke again. Did that for about 1/2 the swim. I was REALLY mad at myself and decided that I just needed to get it together and swim.. I would tell myself stroke, stroke, breathe/glide, over and over. That finally relaxed me enough that I could finish with freestyle. What would you do differently?: NOt panic and swim freestyle. Do more OWS practice!! 2007 27:33 Transition 1
Comments: Was pretty frustrated coming out after the swim but really pushed myself to get out and get on the bike! What would you do differently?: nothing because I was faster than last year (3:04) Bike
Comments: This is a very tough course coming from an area that is mostly flat. I had really slacked off on my training the past 2 months and didn't do any hills before this race. I pushed hard in alot or areas and had some fast down hill rides. I think the max speed said 39. I passed alot of riders and only got passed a few times. Played cat/mouse with a few girls and that really helped keep my focus. There was a girl for the DC tri club that I noticed in front of me on the swim, I caught her and we passed each other a few times. What would you do differently?: Not slack off my training for 2 months. 2007 1:03:34 Transition 2
Comments: I never sat down. Grabbed my stuff, but had to get into my bag to grab a gel. My second one fell while I was on the bike. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Much better than last year. 2007 2:27 Run
Comments: I knew this run was not going to be great due to the lack of training going into this race. Was shocked to look down at my watch and see 9:11 for the first mile. I knew that I went out way to fast and would probably regret it later. Got a nasty cramp in my right calf just after 1st mile. Had to stop and try to stretch it out. Started back with a slow jog and started thinking to myself; if my bosses wife can work while going through chemo and being sick; then I certainly can run through a leg cramp and that got me going again. Saw Klynne up ahead of me and grabbed her arm as I passed her. I really thought for a minute to just run with her, but looked at my watch and knew that if I pushed I could beat last years time and pressed on. Walked the big hill for a short distance a few times. Chatted with a few ladies going into mile 3 and was happy to know that I was going to beat last years time. What would you do differently?: Not be a slacker!!!!! Post race
Warm down: Got my medal and waited for Klynne to come across the finish. What limited your ability to perform faster: Loosing motivation 2 months before this race. Event comments: This years race was not as good as last year. Prior to the start the announcer was having to tell people to get out of the transition area more than a few times. The post race food was gross. I really wanted sugar and pizza and all they had was some kind of healthy rice mixture, TLC cookies and bananas, half bagels, fruit punch/water. YUCK!!!! The good thing was they gave us our finish times on a nice card. We left fast for a nice juicy burger!!!! Last updated: 2008-04-01 12:00 AM

Drove to Columbia with Klynne. Went to the packet pick-up and Expo. Had to rack the bike on Sat, then we drove the bike course just to refresh our memories from last year. Had dinner with a few other BT'ers and Mid MD tri club at Tomato Palace. Was very nice to meet some new BTer's and listen to their stories.
Got up at 5 and the hotel had set out a few breakfast items early for the racers that stayed there. Was so glad to be able to get a good breakfast before the race. HAd a bagel/peanut butter and my coffee. Met a couple that Klynne had seen at the hotel last year and chatted about this being her first race. Got to the race site and had a easy time setting up the transition area because we had racked the bikes the night before. Had seasoned racers beside me so had plenty of space. This year I had a fantastic spot and was happy. Lots of port-o-potty stops before heading down to the water. Watched Klynne go off and then tried to settle my nerves before it was my turn.
