Pre-race routine:

Just took it easy...good stretching
Event warmup:

Stretching
Swim
  • 10m 36s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 39s / 100 meters
Comments:

I believe that the overall swim performance was just OK. The pool got pretty congested in my 3rd length which made me a bit nervous. Need to work on better breath control.
What would you do differently?:

Did 100m of breast in the middle of the swim, and I really didn't need to. I believe that if I could have relaxed a bit more I could have finished with all free. Will work on breath control
Transition 1
  • 02m 2s
Comments:

BAD transition here today. Announced before the race that IPODS were illegal, and I had mine wired into my helmet. I took it apart during transition. I also took WAY too much time drying off feet and putting shoes, gloves and helmet on.
What would you do differently?:

No IPOD in helmet...I will attach shoes to bike
Bike
  • 37m 9s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 20.08 mile/hr
Comments:

Pretty good ride given the situation we had to deal with (weather) and the fact that there were a LOT of inexperienced cyclists in front of me to contend with due to the Serpentine Swim
What would you do differently?:

Not too much other than transition. I am SO HAPPY that I rode the course first.
Transition 2
  • 00m 55s
Comments:

Not a bad transition, but I should have had my feet out of the shoes when I rounded the last corner. I will need to work on this. Didn't use socks for either the cycling or the run and I believe this saved time.
What would you do differently?:

Getting feet out of shoes before entering transition.
Run
  • 21m 53s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 02s  min/mile
Comments:

Legs felt VERY heavy at the beginning...I didn't transition as well as I would have liked. Started feeling better in the second mile.
What would you do differently?:

Practice more bike to run transitions AT RACE PACE
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and stretched.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Weather, crowd and inadequate brick practices

Event comments:

This was a well-run race. It was the largest they've had BY FAR in the 3 years since inception, and given a growth of over 200 entrants from the previous year, I thought they did a nice job. With a Serpentine swim, however, the end of the race was really dragging out, and I left without my results because they wouldn't post until everyone was done.
