Pre-race routine:

Woke up and ate 2 flax waffles with peanut butter and half a protein shake and some bengal spice tea. Then got Michele up, she was doing the relay with Juliapurr and friend Christine. Drove to the race and found a great parking spot.
Event warmup:

Ran for about 10 minutes and did dynamic stretching. Then did 4x50 meter strides to wake up the legs. Put my clothes in the truck to get them at the end. I forgot to put another pair of shoes in there for after the race. I needed them.

Comments:

Ok, my real goal was to be under 1:15, but I was going to be ok with anything under 1:30. I really didn't know how this would go. I have not done mcuh tempo work and no speed work.
Started out front with the fast guys and girls and felt real good through 3 miles. Settled in down a bit and ran under 160 HR. Ran with some people and talked a bit with them and found out we were all wanting to finish around 1:25. GOt to mile 5 and saw Michele and Christine ready to hand off there relay. Kept the pace up. GOt to mile 6and 7 and flet good still. Tried to keep the pace strong but last so time drinking at the aid stations. Got to mile 8 and there was Dime on the bridge. What a nice surprize. He ran with me and gave me words of encouragement and we picked up the pace a bit. Had a gel at mile 10 and got ready to bring it home strong. Picked up the pace and dropped Jay Survil, a fast dude. He was mister stompy foot and the noise was bugging me the whole race. Glad to drop him. Mile 12 came up and I remember the nasty hill over the Highway. My calves were really tight and sore at this point. I kept it as strong as I could thinking about pumping my arms back and quick steps. Got over the hill and went as hard as I could go. The legs still felt ok and my breathing was ok again after not being able to breath on the hill and saw the clock said 1:24:50 and I knew I would break 1:25 and I did. What a relief to be done. Good strong effort throughout and I was proud of myself.
What would you do differently?:

Run more hills and get in some faster workouts.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked to get my stuff out of the truck and noticed there was no line at the massages so I got one on my calves and legs. That was nice. Then ate some food. Brats, and drank a few beers with Richard, Katie, Meg, Dave, Brett, Julia, Chris and drank some water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing really.

Event comments:

What a great race. I was happy to podium today and Michele, Julia and Christe won the Women's relay. Great day for the BT crew.
Thanks Dime for running with me!
