Pre-race routine:

I got up and thought about biking to the race, but decided not to as it was a bit cool and the legs were tired from yesterdays bike ride. Other wise, just some cereal and coffee.

Connie and I got checked in and chatted with Dudley for a bit. Mike and Kam came in a bit later and joined us as well.
Event warmup:

Dudley, Mike and I jogged a few hundred yards to the start line.

Comments:

Took off with Kam and felt ok until the first big hill. We were in the mid 6 range and I knew I couldn't carry that up the hills. So I backed it off a bit. Wasn't too long after that Mike came by with some good advice on leaning forward some. I know when I push too hard I tend to lean back. After recovering a bit, I settled into a nice pace and went with the terrain. My goal today was to keep it under 8 min/mile (although I was hoping to be closer to 7:30). But the second mile at 8:25 killed that.

All in all, a day to race with some great company.
What would you do differently?:

I am focusing on training for LP, so I really haven't trained for shorter distances much. Plus I need to train tomorrow so, I would not do anything different today. Maybe I could lose some more weight so the uphills would be a bit easier.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed a water and walked around a bit. Cheered Dudley in, then jogged about 3/4 of a mile up to push Connie in.
Watched a biggest loser receive his crown! Congrats on that Dudley!!! Watched the awards. Congratulations to Kam on her 1st in AG and Mike on his 2nd place in AG!!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

40 years of bad habits and still being heavy for a runner.

Event comments:

They do a nice job with race. It was adjusted to a 6K this year due to road construction. Enough people liked the new course, especially Mike, that they may keep it a 6K in the future.
