Total Time = 2h 56m 34s
Overall Rank = 84/110
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 7/13
Pre-race routine:

Moved my bike so I could rack by Roni. We were right at the exit for the bike and run. Took an Excedrin and used my inhaler. Put my wetsuit on, etc.
Swim
  • 33m
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 01s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was my first OLY, and my first large group in OWS. I could have done it faster, but I didn't want to get too tired. Cut my hand on some reeds at the first buoy; felt like a paper cut.
What would you do differently?:

I wish I had done it faster. I know I can, I was just relaxing and enjoying the swim.
Transition 1
  • 03m 16s
Comments:

Took my time to make sure I had everything I needed.
What would you do differently?:

I guess I could have hurried.
Bike
  • 1h 16m 21s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 19.53 mile/hr
Comments:

Would love to see this bike course changed to just one direction. There were four 180 turns around cones. Also, I was bleeding like crazy from my fingers for the first 12 miles. The turn-around volunteers had no radios. HUH? Had to yell to Dawn and Pat for a bandaid, but by the time I passed them again the bleeding had mostly stopped. Pat made a great hand off with the band aid!
What would you do differently?:

I think I would try to maintain my cadence in a higher gear. I really didn't push very hard on this ride.
Transition 2
  • 01m 59s
Run
  • 1h 01m 58s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

What would you do differently?:

Over the winter I will learn to run faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Gasped for breath, got dizzy, blurred vision, etc. Used my inhaler, got a 10-minute rub down on my back and neck from Joyce, the friend I stayed with. She is a massage therapist. She wasn't working at the race, but lives only 50 yards from the park.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I used my newer water bottle instead of my old one, and I couldn't take in as much water with it. This led to worse hydration than I had planned for.

I ran the race I had planned, so I'm pretty happy with the result.

Event comments:

I was really surprised that the volunteers had no radios, and astounded that there wasn't water at the run turn around. The post-race food, the t-shirt/schwag, etc were sub-par. Maybe I am just spoiled by the Bitterroot Classic???

Course: Out and back on nice bike and walking paths. Easy. One aid station was just after leaving T2, another one only 1.25 miles into the course. After that there was NO aid until you got back. Strangely there was no aid station at the turn around. Just a lone cone. Anyone could have cheated and turned around at any time. Worse yet, how many runners were expecting to be able to cool off at the turning point??? I was.
