Pre-race routine:

Got up, threw the bike in the car, grabbed a muffin & some coffee.
Event warmup:

Ran the bike through some gears & trotted 10 minutes
Run
  • 24m 57s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

I didn't feel too on, but hadn't tapered at all this week, so just figured on using this as training.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Maybe not run 1.5 hours the day before, but it wasn't an A race.
Transition 1
  • 01m 6s
Comments:

A little sluggish
Bike
  • 48m 29s
  • 13.2 miles
  • 16.34 mile/hr
Comments:

I should have gone harder, but just didn't have it on the hills.
What would you do differently?:

Focus a bit more. Hill workouts will become necessary as the year progresses
Transition 2
  • 00m 47s
Run
  • 26m 49s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

I actually did better with the hilly 2nd run than I had the previous week on a flat course. Oh. I bet it was because I had feeling in my feet when I got off the bike. Anyway, I held off all but one female from passing me.
What would you do differently?:

Not much,
Post race
Warm down:

Trotted to transition for my bike to get it out of the threatening weather and put on warm clothes. More trotting back to watch awards.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Laziness? Who knows. Strong competition may have had me pshched, but I think it was just the hilly bike/run combination and not really being spun up to do the race with my usual partner in multisport being out of town for the weekend. No cheerleader to tell me to go all out on the bike.

Event comments:

Despite the new venue, the race was well organized, transition nicely set up, the volunteers abundant and helpful, bike route turns well marked and policed. The rain, coming down steadily when I left home, had let up in the 30 mile drive and stayed away until light sprinkles in the 2nd 5K, so the weather was with us as well.
