Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:45 and put everything in the car. We were staying at a hotel accross the street from the transition area but we drove anyway. We got to the parking lot which was filling up fast. Went to the transition area and setup my stuff. Then just hung around for an hour plus before my wave began.
Event warmup:

Walked over to the start area to watch a couple friends start the swim. Walked back to the transition area to cheer them on and then walked back to the swim start. Got in the water about 15 minutes before my wave began and did some warmup swimming.

Comments:

The swim was decent. It was one of the roughest starts I have been in so far. I bumped into quite a few people and I got bumped and kicked several times. Once the pack spread out I was able to settle in better.
What would you do differently?:

I need to start off faster and try and stay more towards the front of the pack. Next time I will start further to the right side where it is less crowded.

Comments:

The transition was ok. I had my wetsuit half way off when I got to my spot. I easily got my wetsuit off but had to sit down to dry my feet and put on my socks and cycling shoes.
What would you do differently?:

I need to learn to ride and run with no socks. I know I can save time if I don't have to sit down and put my socks on. I am going to work on going sockless.

The bike was flat and pretty fast. I was going ok but slowed down a lot on the overpass crossings. I was passed by several people on fancy tri bikes and I passed several people as well.
What would you do differently?:

I need to push it even harder on the bike. I am a very slow runner so I need to make up as much time as possible on the bike. I need to spend a lot more time training on the bike.

I am switching over to yanks on my shoes so I hope this will help me be faster.

The run was ok but it is my slowest of the three sports. The course is failrly flat and fast and I know I can run it faster.
What would you do differently?:

I need to work on getting faster.

Warm down:

Met my wife and friends and waited for another friend to finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I am overweight. I really need to focus on losing weight and I know I will get faster.

Event comments:

I participated in this race last year and it seemed like it was more organized and there were more volunteers. Overall it was a good race and I look forward to participating in it again next year.
