Manitowoc - Two Rivers YMCA
Precipitation
Total Time = 1h 54m 4s
Overall Rank = 195/214
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 13/13
Pre-race routine:

Got up before 5, had vitamins, Elation(glucosamine/chondroitin drink), water; got ready, packed up last minute items and went to the race with my husband. My parents and my two boys followed later!
Event warmup:

Drank some Heed, ate a Hammer gel, walked around, got in my wetsuit (kind of a warmup in itself) and got in the water.
Swim
  • 08m 41s
  • 440 yards
  • 10s / 100 yards
Comments:

I breast stroked most of the way, I'm still a bit nervous about open water swimming - but I liked the fact that they had noodles marking the course - so it was easy to follow!
What would you do differently?:

Practice more OWS - I probably could have done more freestyle!
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

I still have to practice the transition - the rain made everything soaking wet, so I spent time trying to figure out how to dry my sunglasses. Ultimately, I just put them on my shirt, hoping they would dry on their own.
What would you do differently?:

Just keep moving even if everything isn't perfect!
Bike
  • 1h 05m 21s
  • 15 miles
  • 13.77 mile/hr
Comments:

I was too nervous about the turns because I crashed at my last triathon during wet conditions. I need to get over it! I also drank way too much.
What would you do differently?:

Drink less.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

I messed around with racking my bike too long. My elastic laces were too tight and I had a hard time getting my running shoes on.
What would you do differently?:

Loosen my laces!
Run
  • 40m 5s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 12m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

The water volunteers didn't have any water ready, so I had to skip it; which was just as well, because I already had to stop at the marina bathroom on the way out from the YMCA after drinking so much on the bike!
What would you do differently?:

Push it more on the run. I would also avoid weeding on my hands and knees for 3 hours the day before a triathlon!
Post race
Warm down:

Walked a lot, visited with my parents and got big hugs and kisses from my boys and my husband (who of course won his age group!). I ate a natural ovens cookie and drank some water!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I need to manage fluids better, practice transitions, and train harder!

Event comments:

This race is really well run, and I will plan to do it again.
