Pre-race routine:

Pre-race ride of bike course.

Routine? Well I could only sleep 3-4 hours the night before because I was nervous and anxious! Was worried about my swim, and if I was eating enough, or too much, would I get hungry, would I run out of energy.
Event warmup:

Well I warmed up by stretching a little, and watching everyone swim before me!
Swim
  • 06m 56s
  • 300 meters
  • 02m 19s / 100 meters
Comments:

I thought I was only going to finish in 7-8 minutes for 300 yds. So I was surprised by swimming it in under 7 minutes, and swimming longer distance than I thought.
My breathing needs work. Passed a few people in the swim, was passed by a couple people, and then was stuck behind 3-4 people all bunched up near the end.
What would you do differently?:

Practice, practice, practice...
Transition 1
  • 01m 22s
Comments:

Seemed smooth. Had to don some socks, and the bike shoes. Racked bike over the top, so easily removed.
Bike mounting could use some practice.
Bike
  • 37m 23s
  • 11.5 miles
  • 18.46 mile/hr
Comments:

Missed the only left turn on the first lap. Knew right where it was on the second lap though!
Felt like I should have done better in this segment. My training rides were on more hilly terrian and I've maintained higher average speeds. I expected to be in the 19's. The missed turn might have cost me more than I thought.
What would you do differently?:

Pay closer attention? I had a feeling I was going to miss that turn on the pre-race ride!
Transition 2
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

Quick dismount, and then had to rack bike and remove helmet.
I did take a drink before starting the run.
What would you do differently?:

Next time I'll plan to get a drink before dismounting the bike, or try to do it while running back through the transition area.
Run
  • 25m 10s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 05s  min/mile
What would you do differently?:

Can push a bit harder next time.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk, stretch

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Hey it was my first tri, I didn't really know what I could expect from myself!
I hope to improve for the next one!

Event comments:

Best Triathlon I've ever been in!
(Don't cheapen that by reminding me it was my FIRST.)
More experienced triathletes commented on how professional this event was.
Would like to do this event again, if they have it next year.
