Pre-race routine:

Schmize stayed at my house. We got up early and the weather was horrible. Tons of rain and lightning. We still decided to head up to the race, but figured it would be cancelled. When we got there the organizers said it would probably be cancelled, but they would keep an eye on the weather. We hung out in the gym and waited. Some people left as time went on. They announced it was probably going to cancel, but they would give it a little more time. A little while later they came on and said it looked like there was a window and they were going to go. Everyone rushed out to the transition area and hurried to get ready.
Event warmup:

I did a short swim, not much.
Swim
  • 30m 52s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 53s / 100 yards
Comments:

Not a great swim. It was slow. I kept an okay cadence, but I just didn't have speed.
Transition 1
  • 02m 36s
Comments:

Okay transition. It was a wet morning which didn't help. Still do not have bike shoes, so I put on socks and running shoes.
Bike
  • 1h 16m 43s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 19.44 mile/hr
Comments:

It was an okay ride. All things considered I did okay with speed. My tires lost air pressure as I rode, so I felt like I was riding on flats as the race progressed. I had that in my mind most of the race, because it had started happening in training just before the race. With my mind on that and the fact I have been sick all week and still not perfect I did not notice I was not even riding in top gear. It was nice to have someone come up to me after the race and compliment my riding. I was surprised since it was not my best performance.
What would you do differently?:

Get a new bike!!!
Transition 2
  • 01m 5s
Comments:

Fast T1 - I already had my shoes on. 5th in age group, 9th overall. Too bad that will change with bike shoes.
Run
  • 56m 20s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

I really started to feel it on the run. I had been sick all week and was still not 100%. My body really fatigued out. I also started feeling somewhat feverish towards the end. The damp, cool weather did not help either.
What would you do differently?:

Not be sick. I also need to improve my training techniques.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Sick.

Event comments:

A very well organized race. I just wish I had felt better. I am thankful that we got a break in the weather to run the race, but it was not ideal. Looking forward to doing the race again next year.
