Run
Comments: Felt great on the first run despite some stomach issues just prior to the starting gun. Ran at a quick pace and stayed tight to the lead group. Hit transition feeling pretty solid about my performance. Second run leg was solid, though I felt sluggish out of transition. Sucked back a PowerBar Gel, which seemed to give me a boost - if only mental. Nice finish, passing a great deal of folks who zipped by me on the bike. What would you do differently?: Might have taken more chances and hit it harder heading toward transition. Otherwise, it was picture perfect. Transition 1
Comments: Had some trouble clipping in, which was incredibly annoying. I've been practicing my transition this winter and pleased with how quickly I was able to slip out of my shoes and into my cleats. Ran well with the bike to the exit. Second transition was solid - in and out in under a minute. The elastic shoelaces worked wonders getting me out of transition. What would you do differently?: The cleat slip was frustrating, but only took a couple seconds to fix. I'd like to become smoother getting my foot locked in. Bike
Comments: Bike time includes the run out of transition as well as about :20 of running my bike back to transition in cleats. Once I found my rhythm, I was cookin', but I struggled mightily on the uphills and lost a bit of focus. I should have attacked the hills much harder and recovered on the downhills, but I wasn't thinking straight. What would you do differently?: Kill those hills. Be more aggressive. Post race
Warm down: No real warm-down. I should have gone for a run, but I mulled about cheering other competitors, ate some bagels and hydrated. What limited your ability to perform faster: Losing focus on the bike. I need to get into a rhythm sooner and then challenge myself to go harder even through discomfort. I was weak on the hills and as a pretty light guy, I should have been flying up those hills. My average speed was hurt by a lack of aggressiveness on the hills as well as a few slip-ups re: wrong turn early on that required a tight turnaround as well as inability to get my cleat into the pedal right away. Event comments: A solid race put on for the 18th year. Really enjoyed this one; nice way to kick off the multi-sport season! Last updated: 2008-04-13 12:00 AM

Woke up to the alarm clock and coffee pot at 4:15 a.m. Ate oatmeal, drank a small cup of coffee and hit the road with the sun still in hiding!
Made it down to Prospect Park just past 6 a.m. Put my bike at transition and then ran the run course nice and easy to warm up.
