Swim
Comments: Good swim. I cut off about four minutes from my last race. This event doesn't have individual placements for the individual disciplines. Would have been interesting to see. I'm glad I wore the wetsuit. It was just in between being warm enough to not needing it to being cool enough to need it. Helped with buoyancy. What would you do differently?: Practice more. I have a hard time staying in the freestyle stroke and always end up breast stroking. My plan was to do 50 strokes free style, then 25 breast, repeat. Ended up doing 25 freestyle, 50 breast... Transition 1
Comments: A little faster than my last T1 time. Still could have been better though. Definitely a harder transition than T2. But all in all I got out of there. Bike
Comments: Chip sealed roads. Ugh. Lots of hills. First part was down hill. Coming up the first good hill a few people in my age group passed me. But I let them. I caught up with them on the flats and left them in the dust though. I tucked it in a lot more on the bike and felt like I did so much better than last time but I was slower! Couldn't believe it. I have so much fun on the bike. My husband says it's not all about the equipment though because some people on knobby tire, mountain bikes beat me and I beat some people on road bikes...My bike ran smooth as can be though. It's a good bike. I just wish it were a road bike! What would you do differently?: hammer it a little harder on the flats Transition 2
Comments: I had to pee so bad by the time I got into T2. I should have used the bathroom but didn't want to waste the time... So I racked my bike and took off. Good T2 time What would you do differently?: USE THE BATHROOM! Run
Comments: S L O W E S T 5k ever! Not used to running in the heat. Plus I had to pee like crazy. It was miserable! I ran past the toilets in the park and wasn't sure if it was ok to take a pit stop. So I didn't. My gosh I was dying! It was so hot too. They had aid stations about every mile. Which was definitely needed. I grabbed two cups of water at every station and tried to drink a little of one and then dumped the rest of it on me. And I would be dry by the time I got to the next station. What would you do differently?: Pushed it harder. I am so very disappointed in this time. I also would have fit in some runs in the heat. I didn't realise what an impact the heat would have. Post race
Warm down: Go find a bathroom!!! And I stretched. What limited your ability to perform faster: The heat. My lack of training. Event comments: This was a good race overall. I'm sure I'll do it again next year just so that I can really see some improvement. Husband says it's not fair to compare different races like Redfish with this one because even though the distance is the same there are so many other variables involved. I woke up at 6:30. Had packed everything the night before so we were ready to go. I drank a slimfast on the way there and had a banana when we got there. Picked up my packet and got things ready. Then said goodbye to the fam as they were just going to wait for me at T2.
I did some stretching.
