Swim
Comments: I was much more confident going into this swim and got out much faster. I didn't get concerned about minor bumps and grabs and treated it like water polo. Much better than my first tri last year. I still don't know how to pace myself very well, I could probably have gone faster, but didn't really know what a 250m pace should be for me. This is still by far my weakest leg, but I'm enjoying it more. What would you do differently?: Get more experience swimming races. Transition 1
Comments: I don't know if I could be any faster, given what I was doing. What would you do differently?: Learn to do the flying start with shoes on pedals. don't wear socks? Practice getting my wetsuit off faster. Bike
Comments: I felt okay with the bike, still trying to figure out the pacing. As I don't have much experience racing on a bike. What is a 10 mile race pace? Don't know really. I just picked what felt like arround a tempo effort. I was in the drops most of the way, and was slower in the 2nd half because of rough road surface. What would you do differently?: Train more on the bike. I still have never done a speed type workout on the bike. I don't really know how to do one yet. Transition 2
Run
Comments: This is by far my best event. While I passed and was passed on the bike, not a single runner caught me and I moved passed many 30-50 runners including 5 in my age group. Oddly though I'm more disappointed with it than the other legs because it is what I know best, I know I can run way faster than 6:50 for a 5k. I'm just not as running fit as I'd like, the 3 days training is probably not enough to get my running fitness where I'd like. Pace was probably just about right for my fitness. I messed up the finish, I thought the finish was in the parking lot, but it went onto the beach. That was not clear to me when looking at the course, leaving my finishing kick about 25yrds short and almost got caught. What would you do differently?: Make sure I know where the finish is. Post race
Warm down: none What limited your ability to perform faster: experience, fitness. Event comments: The most important things to me about any race are on the course. Is it well marked? Are there mile markers on the run? Is it always very clear where to go well in advance of making a sharp turn. In this the course was marshalled exeptionally well. Last updated: 2008-04-16 12:00 AM
