Pre-race routine:

Got up and had breakfast, headed into the city early because parking is always an issue. Got a spot in a garage a few blocks from the start/finish area so that was nice. Wandered around the race/health expo. Some beautiful therapy dogs out there and I found myself hanging on this massive rottweiller. Huh?? I'm not a dog person and usually not into rotties but this guy was so well behaved and gentle it really goes to show that breeding and training are keys in having a good dog...
Event warmup:

Parade of survivors was incredible moving. Thought I was going to lose it crying as these women walked past us.

Favorite pre race T shirt spotting: "Knitters for Knockers"...guess where the balls of yarn were placed on those shirts?

Comments:

Starts off pretty nice, strange running on the bridges and off ramps. Just at the end of mile 1 there was a pretty big hill which was no sweat. Between mile 2 and 3 there was another hill which kicked my butt, my calves were cramping up on both legs so I took a few 5 step walk breaks to keep from having major issues. After all this is a 5K, never expected to have a problem in it...Once again proving me wrong that "anyone can pull a 5K out without much effort"--this sucker took effort.
What would you do differently?:

Train for hills more.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around, stretch. Got a banana, yogurt and water. The yogurt tasted funny so I think I ate about 3 bites and tossed it but the banana and water were welcome.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not training for hills

Event comments:

I initially thought the entry fee for this race was steep--about half as much as the fall half marathon entry. BUT, I learned that most of the funds they raise stays here in Richmond serving women with no health insurance for mammograms so that made it a worthwhile thing to me.
