Swim
Comments: swallowed a big gulp at the beginning, but breathing was good from the start; wave wasn't very crowded, so lots of room to swim. Probably could have pushed more, but felt great at the end Transition 1
Comments: It was a long way to my "VIP" rack, but it was easy to find my bike (being in the next to last wave has its advantages, I guess). Probably dallied a little too long (cleaning sunglasses, etc.), but it was OK - turns out this was my "best" event (top 27% overall, top 10% women) - go figure- if the whole race was transitions, I'd be set! Bike
Comments: Felt pretty good on the bike, took one GU near the start. Legs were feeling it a little on the uphills (maybe yesterday's ride?), but overall it was fun. My time was 3 min slower than last year, though - what's up with that? Transition 2
Comments: top 51% overall, top 40% women - at least I'm pretty good at something:) Run
Comments: Pacing felt good from the start - tried not to look at my watch until about mile 4; was pleasantly surprised, given the relatively lesser training I've had in the last month for running. I'm happy with my time overall - such as it is. I took one GU and an electrolyte cap near the beginning of the run; opted not to have another one at 45 min into the run, which I think was a mistake. I was feeling sluggish (more than usual) the last mile. What would you do differently?: Stick to nutrition plan Post race
Warm down: Walked around, had a bagel, banana & water. Got a 5 min leg massage. Event comments: Even with my slower bike time and non-blazing run, I beat my time last year by :40 - yay!! 168/261 overall for women = 65% Last updated: 2008-04-20 12:00 AM

riding from parking lot to race site (1.5-2 miles?), watched Kip come out of the swim, swam to start (50 yrds)
