Swim
Comments: This was my first time using a full suit. Mine is sleeveless and I had to borrow one for this race. I can't say if I would have been faster or slower in my sleeveless, but I'm glad I had a wetsuit. I definitely would have been slower without one. What would you do differently?: ?? Transition 1
Comments: T1 is still my slowest transition. But I felt like I got through this one much faster than I have in the past. The wetsuit came off really easy, but I fumbled my gloves and had to mess with my helmet a little before taking off. Bike
Comments: I never looked at my watch for time/HR throughout this ride. I just kept an even cadence and never stopped cranking. My biking has come a long way in the last 6 months. I made up a lot of positions in the bike, and didn't get caught/passed by anyone in the second wave...which used to be common for me. Two jackasses in the 30-34 age group were drafting off each other most of the race and didn't get caught. What would you do differently?: Nothin'! Transition 2
Comments: This transition was about my fastest ever. It was awesome! What would you do differently?: I don't know how it could have been faster...Even a flying dismount off the bike wouldn't have helped, because the timing mat is after the dismount line :) Run
Comments: I passed the to jackasses that were drafting off of each other immediately after leaving transition. After passing a couple other people early in the run I was pretty much alone until starting the second lap, and was then joined by many people in their first lap. I was just focusing on keeping an even pace/stride, not slowing down, and not getting passed...all accomplished. What would you do differently?: Maybe push a little harder, but I think I put in the right amount of effort throughout the race. I was very happy with this one. Post race
Warm down: Walked to the lake and took an "ice bath". I walked out far enough that the bottom temperature felt about 5 degrees cooler than the surface. This helped me recover quickly and lowered my body temperature. What limited your ability to perform faster: Probably the heat. I was hoping for a sub 40 minute 10k, but it just wasn't going to happen today. Other than the temperature everything fell into place and I had a great race. Event comments: Always a great race, nice venue, and post race spahgetti for the athletes...good stuff. And any race where you take home hardware is a great race! Last updated: 2008-04-21 12:00 AM
